Retention p25
-"...students who are retained for purely academic reasons do not benefit at all from this approach to their education and are actually seriously harmed by it."

So how do we best help kids?? I have retained kids before as a last resort. I don't like to do it especially in 3rd grade, but how do we close the academic gap???? I know it doesn't always work. One of my oldest students I had this year was retained in Kdg, and she was now an older 3rd grader and one of my lowest students. I had another student who was retained in 3rd grade and she was in my class this year and although she made great progresss, I think school will always be hard for her. How can we help these students???
