Complexities: The slits I made in order to connect the different pieces were too large, so I needed to fold the cardboard in order to make it fit. In the object I made, the rectangle was cut down to two squares, then further into a glob shape and some spiky bits.
Purposes: I knew that to make one of the squares stand up, it needed to be bent or made three-dimensional to give it a base. I cut a wedge from a corner to make it possible to separate some pieces. I know that the cardboard has channels inside, so I cut halfway through those layers to allow for easy bending. To add interest, I made another channel in the other square, and wound up with spikes left over. I decided to change the forms, use the spikes as extra pieces to see if that affected the balance. 
Complexity: Could I make this with a smaller base? It looks like a cactus. Purpose: to balance a structure - that is offset and can disconnect.
