The villagers’ attitudes for the lottery reveals the central theme that not all traditions can be good traditions. The attitude that they show is them feeling nervous, impatient, bored and wanting the lottery to be quick. Every tradition isn’t always good because everyone in the story was impatient and wanted to get over with the lottery.

Everyone who was participating in the lottery, only joined because the government wanted all the villages to host this lottery, which made them get bored of it which made them be impatient and which affects their attitude. In the Story “The Lottery” it says that “The people had done it so many times that they only half listened to the directions; most of them were quiet, wetting their lips, not looking around”. And a sentence that shows their attitude being impatient or bored is from paragraph 31 it says “that over the north village they’re talking of giving up the lottery.”
