Learners according to McCrindle seem to favor more decentralized styles of learning. It would seem that as the barriers to communication erode, e.g. time (hours vs. minutes vs. seconds) the types of ways we want to engage via learning has changed.

Wow! We have a whole new generation that I had not heard named before: Alpha. They are multi-modal, global gen. People born in 2010 or later. They were born after the iPad and around the same time that FaceTime came out. THESE ARE OUR STUDENTS!

This really makes me laugh! We all think of ourselves as original, but we are completely a product of our generation! My parents are Baby Boomers, my husband and I are both Gen X, and my kids are both Gen Z, to a T. I think the older we get, the more important it is to check in with a list like this! Right now, I'm doing well, because my kids are ages of the kids I teach. But, pretty soon, I will not know terms like, "Get Roasted" and that's when mccrindle comes in handy!

It always interests me to see how drastically what we consider to be engagement has changed over time. By looking at the infographic you can clearly see the polar opposites that are presented. The "sit & listen" to "try & see" is so evident in many classrooms today its hard to imagine seeing a classroom run in any other way.

There is an incredible amount of new jobs on this list. I think it is always hard to think about that this list continues to grow and that we are preparing students for jobs that do not even exist yet. It also goes along with the amount of technology that continues to come out. It is always amazing to me how much things can change in a short amount of time in terms of technology.

I didn't know my two sons are from two different generations. Oldest is Gen Z and youngest in Gen Alpha. They're only 4 years apart. I had no idea there was a Gen Alpha. Fun to see how tech, toys, cars from each generation.

I think it is really important for us to understand our students and how they differ not only from our own generation, but from the previous generation of students. The Alpha/Glass Generation and Gen Z don't want to get away from their families as quickly and don't assume they are going to purchase a house. My generation seemed to want to escape either at 18 or immediately following college and wanted to own a condo, townhouse, or house as soon as possible for life to begin and as an investment. The information in the report also helps me understand a bit more about my kids who are Gen Z and especially understand Gen Alpha whom we are currently teaching.
