Had to have surgery and a Foley Catheter was inserted in the urethra and its destination the bladder. Thank the stars for being numb and unconscious when this was placed.

Greater trochanter

Don't get this confused with the Great Barrier Reef. It's actually the large, irregular area of the upper part of the femur. The surgeons used this area as a landmark to orient the remainder of the surgery.

acetabulum

Acetabulum? Trust me it's not a spice. It's the deep boney cavity located on the lateral aspect of the pelvis. So, the surgeons had to ream meaning remove the messed-up part of that bone, acetabulum. Kinda looks like a cereal bowl, yum!

Hip Flexion & Extension

Sometime after surgery, staff had to check my hip for range of motion. They checked for hip flexion, which is just moving your thigh/knee toward the torso. Hip extension is going in the opposite direction. Again, thank the universe for pain meds.

chondromalacia

chondromalacia is aka "runner's knee". In other words, it's the degeneration or softening of cartilage in the joints like the knee and in this case the hip joint. This cause inflammation in the joints and severe pain. Hence the outcome of hip surgery.
