Hey there! The name's Irish Dawn Javier, a 20-year-old province gal who currently resides in Davao City. To be honest, my upbringing didn't focus on the trends or culture of the Philippines. Rather, I grew up listening to Western bands, watching Hollywood films, and craving American food staples. But as I entered my teenage years, I yearned for local things, from music and films, down to the food. So here's a sneak of all my interest in contemporary Pop-culture of the Philippines.

Daniel Zildjian Garon Benitez, better known as "Zild," is a grunge/rock music artist industry staple. But before making a solo platform for himself, he was the main bassist in a popular band called "The IV of Spades". His genre encapsulates psychedelic pop and soft rock, garnering a wide range of fans. And I am one of those people who admire the artistry of zild. While I may not be the total avid fan, I am drawn to the beauty of his musicality. And how he conveys his message through every beat of the drums, stroking of strings, and harmony of his voice.

A movie about the journey of our great General Antonio Luna de San Pedro y Novicio-Ancheta. This is my all-time favorite Filipino film. Every line and emotions conveyed in this movie, I felt it to my bones. Not only did it give me an insight on how the Bayanis were back then. But it peeled the back of the final layer that it is your own people that'll be the death of you. He dedicated his entire life to the country, only to be tainted as a traitor for not wanting to adhere to the idiocracy and ignorance of the corrupt minds.

When the conversation is about Filipino food, automatically, people think of "Jollibee" or the classic potahe like "adobo" "sinigang" and the ever-so-tasty delicacies. But I want to take a moment to appreciate our street vendors. Who walk under the scorching sun, till the brink of the night.

My love for street food is something I can't fully express through words. I prefer eating "turo-turo" and freshly made kakanin at the local market over the overpriced foods at fancy restaurants. It fills me with warmth like a comforting embrace.

A song about reassuring your loved one that there is nothing wrong with being themselves and that it's okay to not put the effort of trying to change to fit the norms. This song resonates with me because I tried so hard to change myself physically, mentally, and emotionally. All that to feel accepted and gain validation from people who fail to see me for who I truly am.

Based on my interests, I choose to correlate them to the Carnival theory. Where we have the liberation to express our souls and personalities through our interests in art, food, and the like. My preferences vary depending on how deep it resonates with me as a person. Like how I only noticed Zild when he chose to have a solo career, his courage spoke to me and allowed me to embrace individuality. It motivated me that maybe it's not bad to wander in a foreign path all on your own.

The liberation and free will of expression contributed to the birth of the film "Heneral Luna". The intricacy of detail and how the writers portrayed his story was almost perfect, and a lot of people related their personal experiences to General Antonio Luna. And lastly, the strength and dedication of the street vendors, imagine all the effort and love they put in every food they made, but still have the heart to sell it at an affordable price to fit the budget of the masses. Lastly, the Carnival theory is the breaking down of the barriers between social classes. All the little things in our culture are the reason for bringing us together as a whole, regardless of our different upbringings.
