He /she is expected to be approachable and have self development skills to provide high quality performance and cooperate with more experienced and skilled musicians. Artist should be creative and musically flexible and play, sing and be able to perform music across different genre and environment and be able to provide an entertainment despite disadvantages.

Creativity, flexibility, teamwork and communication are the most important to became successful musician.

According to Wikipedia definition "A music performer is generally either a singer who provides vocals or an instrumentalist who plays a musical instrument. Musicians may perform on their own or as part of a group, band or orchestra. Musicians can specialize in a musical genre, though a good number of musicians play a variety of different styles depending on cultures and backgrounds.

Here it is the justification for each piece of evidence I will include in the portfolio.

The video of a choir performance to show ability of singing in harmony, awareness of different classical style of music, ability to perform with classical instruments accompaniment, implement in practice reading notation skills gained within theory units

The biography to use it in the future on a front page social media platform and show mu successful communication with a potential audience. It will also briefly summarise vital points of my career so far.

The video of solo performance to show ability in different styles of music, individual stage craft and bigger venue audience management.

Photo of private performance and written feedback to evidence successful delivery of small performance and direct interaction with an audience. To show myself as a reliable and trustfully person.

The video from the Mash House performance to evidence my ability to perform within a band in various music styles, to show communication skills and team work.

The video involved myself into traditional/ slavic musical project to provide the evidence of flexibility and creativeness in challenging environment. That will provide the evidence of cultural awareness and traditional singing with limited instruments as an accompaniment and to gain experience with vocal requirements when open air conditions.

The theory test results, vocal techniques from the vocal coach will be the evidence of my ability to learn and developing my vocal skills.

To show my flexibility as a performer within different styles, musical instruments and ability to deliver proper performance when necessary I will include videos of piano, percussion, sax instruments on video taken from during the last year concerts and tour.

Confirmation of the college licence and buying my own membership show my knowledge and awareness about the copyrights and prove my availability to perform on the last minute basis, with the copyrights respect.

I will include written feedback, feedback from my coach and any additional comments to recognise strengths and weaknesses in my stagecraft and to identify areas of improvement.

I choose the performer/singer role. Well prepared and comprehensive portfolio will give me a chance to react quickly and be engaged and involved in opportunities which will appear within musical industry. The aim of creating portfolio is to identify my strengths and weaknesses as the artist. I hope that the portfolio will give me systematically and methodical approach of vocal skills development, improve my stagecraft, enhance my creativeness and musical flexibility. Working on the portfolio itself boost my time management skills. I hope that it will help me to become more skilled singer and successful musician. The reason I have chosen the performer role is because the information I have from Business Gateway(1) under the creative industry sector indicates that creative industries businesses are still growing. Live performances and festival sector are predicted to bring 10% profits higher every year and overcome the level of inflation(2). Music industry in on the increase giving me good perspective for employment and decent income from it. I think that is the good reason to choose this role for my career.

Evaluation of the process

Evaluation of planning stage part. I would like to mention few points which were occurring during the planning stage and from which I could learn from.

First of all, I am grateful I have been encouraged to spend more time and put more effort into the plan itself. I am quite an organized person and at the beginning of the process I wrote down a general schedule which seemed to be detailed enough for me and the points included in the plan were clear and obvious at the time. However, from today’s perspective I must admit that I underestimated the value of good plan. The lack of a precise and thought through plan from the beginning would have caused me much more stress and taken up extra time, as I would probably have spent more time on constantly thinking what else I need to do. During the whole process I would spend time unnecessarily worrying if I had included and collected all the necessary artefacts I needed. I have learned from this that it is worth to spend a little bit more time on a planning stage and a plan itself. It is worth it to put more effort to create a plan as detailed as possible. It will be paid back with psychical comfort and less stress later on especially with a long-distance goal. Good planning guaranteed that the learning process was challenging for me but hugely positive experience.

Another point which I have learned from the planning stage is simple and obvious. I will definitely do it next time during any other projects. Once a plan is accepted I will print it out and place it where I pass by often or look at on daily basis. It can be stuck to a fridge or/and to a wall calendar or attached as an addition to a notebook. It would be much easier for me to have it close at hand. I do not work on a computer every day and I do not login every day to the platform where my plan was uploaded. I was checking it quite regularly however I only used to login towards the end of the time slot for a particular task. I was having less time to complete the work than I could have had. I wanted stick to the plan without any delays and I manged to do it but with the print out at hand I could plan my work for a coming week more efficiently.

Evaluation of the development stage.

One of the artefacts I was planning to deliver, was a photo of written feedback from an audience/guests taken after a private performance. I agreed and confirmed with a host that I would bring some empty feedback cards and when guests would be leaving I would ask some of them to fill it in with a constructive and honest opinion how I was getting on. One day before the event I decided not to bring these cards as I thought through the idea and I considered that when leaving a party during the night is not the most appropriate time to ask for written feedback. I agreed with the host that he would give me his overall feedback shortly after the event instead. Unfortunately, a few days later he was experiencing difficulties in his personal life and had to deal with some serious health issues. Under those circumstances written feedback for me was outside his priority list. I also learned a lesson from this situation. In my opinion, it would be worth it to prepare some feedback cards to take with me to performances and have them ready to use after an event if the circumstances are appropriate. Feedback from a potential audience member would take less time than oral feedback which I will receive anyway at some point. As result of this situation I do not have any written feedback from this event which I could use as the evidence. The numerous oral feedbacks I received that time, were mostly very positive and as far as I know all guests were having the great time. Instead of the unit artefacts I have attached two photos as the proof of the event. I have done it with the previous guest’s acknowledgement and the host agreement and for the unit purpose only.

Knowing all Graded Unit requirements, specification and number of artefacts that should have been included to pass the unit, I can treat all performances, activities in the college and musical opportunities as potential sources of useful artefacts. Consistency in this process awarded me with a collection of different and useful evidence as attachments to support the unit. Collecting them was very simple and rewarded me greatly with comfort and personal satisfaction due to the way I had chosen to deal with the whole process. I luckily avoided a situation in which I could have struggled with producing artefacts and collecting them in a short time just before the deadline. The consistency let me be respectful and considerate to other people indirectly involved in my project. Some evidence was accessible on previous requests only. Access to official assessment results depended on teachers’ presence in the college. I realised that it was quite a busy time with a lot of workload when I was finishing the developing stage and leaving some urgent requests to the very end stage of the deadline would have caused unnecessary risk to me being able to finish my project on time. Thanks to my consistency during the development stage, my requests were not causing noticeable disturbance during their everyday work in college. What I have learned from that is that consistency is my strong point and with this work approach I have a good chance to successfully finish every project minimalizing stress, maximising results with meeting deadlines. I will implement good planning and small but consistent steps to any future long-term projects I work on. That was the most efficient and beneficial way of the process when I was doing work to complete and finish the unit.
