Interested in machinery since childhood, Howe learned the machinist trade and worked in a cotton machinery factory. During this time it was suggested to him that the man who invented a machine that could sew would earn a fortune. For five years Howe spent all his spare time in the development of a practical sewing machine.

Which claimed a lease on land near Titusville,PA where oil had been gathered from ground-level seepages for medicinal uses. Drake studied the techniques of drilling salt wells and decided to bore for the oil and became one of the richest men in during that time.

Bell began researching methods to transmit telegraph messages simultaneously over a single wire—a major focus of telegraph innovation led to Bell’s invention of the telephone. Despite having the patent, Bell did not have a fully functioning instrument. Bell had developed a growing interest in the technology of sound recording and playback.

He traveled in 1797 to Paris, where he proposed the idea of a submarine, the Nautilus, to be used in France's war with Britain. e became acquainted with new inventions for propelling boats: a water jet ejected by a steam pump and a single, mechanical paddle.

Facing depressed business conditions in Vermont and with a young family to care for, Deere traveled alone to Grand Detour, Illinois, to make a fresh start. Resourceful and hard working, his skills as a blacksmith were immediately in demand. In 1850, approximately 1600 plows were made, and the company was soon producing other tools to complement its steel plow.
