Having a Primary Care Doctor

There are more treatment options than ever for non-emergency medical attention. But you may be compromising long-term quality of care for the sake of cost and convienence. There are over 1,500 retail clinics in chain stores like, CVS, Walgreens and Target. Many of these chains provide treatment for everything from fractures to chronic conditions like high choesterol and diabetes. The cost of getting a shot at one of these chains is much more cost efficient then it would be to get one at a doctors office. Having a regular doctor is important when you are considering treatment options.

When to call 9-1-1

Sometimes driving yourself or a loved one to the emergency room can be slower then calling 9-1-1. Its beteter safe then sorry to call 9-1-1. For certain medical emergencies such as a heart attack or stroke it would be smarter to take and ambulance because the paramedics can deliver life-saving care on the way to the hospital.

A few years ago when my dad was playing softball he broke his hand. He was playing left field and there was a ball hit in his direction so he was sprinting after it and dove for it and twisted his wrist and broke his hand. He had to chose between the ER or urgent care. He decided to go to the ER because they would be able to fix it the quickest.

Urgent Care is Not Emergency Care

A study showed that 48% of patients who had visited the emergency room but were not admitted to the hospital were there because their doctors office was not open. Urgent care is a great option though because of how you can recieve treatment outside of office hours. Things that can be treated at the urgent care include, fever without rash, painful urination, diarrhea, sore throat and vomiting.
