Hook: Many people will never know what slavery feels like, which is good, though a man named Frederick Douglass was forced to live his early life as a slave.
Background information: Frederick Douglass was a slave during the 1800's and had to experience the effects slavery had on people first hand. He ended up escaping and worked with those in power to help end slavery in America. He also wrote a narrative, which he taught himself to write, named Narrative of the life of Frederick Douglass, which was published in 1845 and was about his life as a slave.
Thesis statement: Along with the use of figurative language, Douglass used his writing to reveal the effects of slavery on slaves and salveowners, which supports his position to end slavery.
