         <title>Ms. Kenoff&#39;s Class and School Rules </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<p>1. <strong>No FOOD or drinks in class!</strong> </p><p><strong>Homeroom is the only time food and drink is allowed.</strong> </p><p><br/></p><p>Eating at school is encouraged during homeroom, nutrition and lunch. </p><p><br/></p><p>2.<strong> Gum is not allowed</strong>, but hard candy (like Jolly Ranchers), cough drops or hard mints are ok. Look under the tables if you really need a reason why gum isn't allowed.</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>Gum and or eating in class = a call home or detention with a side of trash pickup at a time that will most likely be inconvenient for you like nutrition or lunch. </strong></p><p>&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;</p><p>3. <strong>If you need a stretch or some air or it's a serious bathroom emergency, raise your hand and give the correct silent signal to ask PERMISSION from an adult before you get up and try to go anywhere.</strong> After we get student planners, your planner is the bathroom pass and you only get to go if you have the planner with you. <strong>Per our school attendance policies students must not leave class the first 10 minutes or last 10 minutes of class.  &nbsp; &nbsp;</strong></p><p><br/></p><p>4<strong>. Per LAUSD policy, all mobile phones and gaming devices must not be used during school hours. </strong></p><p>If you NEED to make a call you are allowed to do so in the main office.&nbsp; Phones and gaming devices can be confiscated and held until a parent or guardian can pick it up from the main office. </p><p><br/></p><p><strong><em>5. Please be punctual.</em></strong> <strong>If the door is open, Ms. Kenoff is open for students to come in. If the door is closed, p</strong>lease line up by 405's door. If you are late or miss something please note what is on the whiteboard or projector screen, or ask an elbow partner quietly. Work will be listed in Schoology or on our whiteboard.&nbsp; </p><p><br/></p><p><strong>6. Respect the GOLDEN RULE and be kind to your classmates, teachers, and staff. </strong></p><p><br/></p><p><strong>7.          <description><![CDATA[<p>R E Q U I R E D</p><p><br/></p><p><strong>1. Your curiosity and a positive attitude which is easier IF... <br><br>2. You are fully charged - 8 to 10 hours of sleep is optimal for a growing brain like yours and breakfast or snack before class. <br><br>3. A fully charged laptop, your charger and access to your school email and password.</strong></p><p> </p><p>4. <strong>Writing or drawing tools: 3 sharp pencils</strong>, blue or black pens if you prefer to write or draw in a notebook.</p><p> </p><p>5. <strong>A journal for reading logs and vocab to take home and share with family for homework points - Ms. K will provide you with a journal but this stays in class. Reading logs can also be kept along with due dates for homework in your student planner which will be provided for just this purpose.&nbsp; </strong></p><p><br/></p><p><strong>O P T I O N A L</strong></p><p><br/></p><ol start="6"><li><p>Colorful writing tools such as markers or pencils, but note that paint pens and sharpies are not allowed for students due to graffiti concerns (these items can be confiscated).  </p></li></ol><p><br/></p><p>7. If music helps you focus while you <strong>write</strong> be prepared with inexpensive headphones (<strong>not</strong> AirPods or similar tech that is easy to lose).<strong> During longer written assignments and short breaks you can connect to your laptop for music.</strong> </p><p>Spotify, Youtube and online gaming are not for class time except during breaks. The only DJ in this class is Ms. Kenoff unless otherwise noted, but please feel free to share music requests with her when she asks. </p>]]></description>

That is an automatic call home to Roberta's parents and earns her a reflection paragraph for learning the value of respecting other people's personal space.&nbsp;<br><br>Marco wants to take a quick drink of Gatorade after coming in to class. = 1 warning. Hey, Marco is still thirsty and drinks again, he loses his Gatorade until the end of the class period or gets a call home. Marco hands over his half empty Gatorade bottle. Then Marco asks his friend Luigi for a waterfall in class. Marco and Luigi get calls home and Marco gets a reflection paragraph.&nbsp;<br><br></div>]]></description>

I get that. That's a 2 day limited edition excuse to keep a hoodie on in room 405 - but 98% of the time no hoodies on at school.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>However, if Ms. K is wearing a hat inside and you happen to be wearing a hat, please enjoy the benefits of our hat society (especially if you are wearing any of the following: Dodgers, Angels, Clippers, Lakers, Kings, Rams, LA Sparks, Angel City FC, LA Galaxy, UCLA Bruins or CSUDH Toros and USC Trojans).&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p>No, I'm sorry (not sorry) I'm not a Raiders or Chargers fan.&nbsp; My brother loves the Raiders, so I kind of have to hate on them. And the Chargers should really go back to San Diego or move to another market. We will begin classes on by taking 3 collective breaths then get quietly focused for &nbsp;</p><p>5 minutes per day.&nbsp;</p><p><br/></p><p>Report what you notice in your journal: before, during and after in a message to Ms. K ;) to earn raffle tickets or bonus points for weekly quizzes by practicing "Zero Hero" or "Ninja Mode" golden silence. &nbsp;</p><p><br/></p><p>If you hate mindful meditation you can read quietly in a book or write in your journal all the things you would prefer to do instead of meditation to help you both focus and relax. </p>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>0 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 4<br><br>4 is the highest mark a student can receive on an assigned task for our class. A 4 shows that a student went above and beyond the task to demonstrate a skill and understands the lesson objectives well enough to help a classmate complete a similar task.&nbsp;<br><br>3 = the student met and completed an assigned task showing they understood the target or goal of the lesson. The assignment may have some errors, but it is completely and promptly completed.&nbsp; A student who receives this mark can re-do the assignment with feedback and resubmit it for full points.&nbsp;<br><br>2 = a student attempted to complete an assigned task, but perhaps rushed through the assignment making careless errors or only completed half the task. This student needs more time or support and can complete the assignment with feedback and resubmit it for full points.<br><br>1 = a student begins the assignment but gets confused or frustrated with the task. A student who receives this mark can re-do the assignment by asking for help from the teacher and resubmit it for full points.&nbsp;<br><br>0 = a student did not attempt the assignment at all, but he or she can get extra time or support if they communicate to the teacher. Each student has until the 4th week of a grading window to submit the task or project for full points. &nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;<br>Assignments will come with rubrics or models to help students get the maximum amount of points and also extra time as needed if they are absent due to sickness or other issues that arise. Not all students progress at the same rate, but this grading approach is meant to support students as they learn.  </div>]]></description>
