Although it is only four letters long I get mistaken for Dan, Dean, Dana, Duane, James, Gene and my personal favorite Nathan. During my first day as a college freshman, a girl I met called me Nathan all day. Eventually, I had enough and told her "my name is Dane." She replied "no it's not; I've dated several Dane's. I would know if you said Dane." I had to pull out my driver's license to prove my own name. Even though it may sound funny, after this incident I started introducing myself as "Dane, like the dog."

Why EDUC 580

I am in EDUC 580 because it is a requirement for the MAT program at Mayville State University. Why am I in the MAT program? My main motivation for wanting to be a teacher is to change the way people view mathematics. I have encountered too many people that have a negative view of mathematics and blatantly state that they hate it. Even worse, I have encountered professionals already in their careers that say they are not good at math as if they have accepted their fate. Mathematics is not something that is reserved for the elite geniuses of the world nor is it a punishment.
