This pouch is used to cradle and nurse baby joeys after they are born.
- The joeys live and move around in the pouch on their own as newborns.
- Up until about 4 months, the baby never leaves the pouch and relies on the mom to feed it since they can not swallow yet.
- Once joeys are about 4 months, they will leave the pouch for short periods of time to graze and begin hopping.
