Use your personal knowledge of the community to identify and record all of the problems that come to mind. Record only one idea per post-it note. Once you're done, try to group the ideas into categories.

What are the problems/needs you've recorded?

Does anything currently exist to solve the problems or fill the needs you've identified? If so, what are they? What are their most important features?

What features would help you solve the problems or meet the needs of the people in your community?

Where are people in your community currently going to have their problems solved or needs met?

Where would they go if they wanted to use your solution to meet their needs or solve their problems?

Designing a Survey

Look at page nine in the student workbook. What does the survey tell you about Shazam and its potential users?

Design a survey for the idea your group has selected.

Take ten minutes to list as many multiple choice questions as you can for your ideal customer. Use pages nine, ten, thirteen, and fourteen in the student workbook to help you with this process. You can record and revise your questions/answers on the appropriate pages.

Next, pick your top five to seven questions and post them on Padlet. Be sure they're in the order you want them answered.

Finally, use Survey Monkey to create a survey that potential customers can complete. Your goal is to get 20 or more responses. We can use use social media to draw attention to your survey.

How might an app address the issues associated with your problem? Record only one idea per post-it note.

Sometimes companies fail to answer two important questions: Do people really need our product? Are we offering something that people don't already have.

Look at page eleven in the student workbook. Why do you think these products were flops with consumers? Record your answers on Padlet.

Turn to page twelve in the student workbook. Use your knowledge of the community and the Internet to answer the following questions:

What type of people will use your app? Approximately how big is this group of potential users? Are these people already using an app that's similar to the one you're designing? Approximately how many people are using your competitor's app? How often are they using this app?
