I don’t agree that all modern kids are coddled, some can be depending on how to the parent is. I believe it’s good for the child to have protection and be on top over them. Although, as years pass by and they get older, I think it is right for the parents to give more freedom and be less protective. With that, it leads the kid to gain more experience and learn how to be independent which is a positive thing. In addition, protecting your kid when they are younger is also a positive thing because kids can easily be manipulated by other people, so in a way the parents are protecting their kids from the outside world. Protecting your kid can happen to a certain extent though. Too much protection leads your kid too being scared of the outside world more and dependent on their parents to protect them.

I feel that kids are more coddled now than compared to a couple of years ago. I know parents that won’t even allow their kids to see PG-13 rated movies because they are to young. Im talking about parents that won’t let their kids see Transformers and Spider-Man. I think it is good to protect and shelter kids but while also giving them independence. While they get older they gain more independence and have less sheltering. I believe this is important because this helps with learning and experiencing life. If the kid is always being sheltered they won’t know what the true world is really like, making them unprepared for when they have to live alone. They will also grow up soft and won’t be able to take the hardship of life. I believe shelter8mg your kids from really extreme things is necessary, so the kid doesn’t become traumatized but at the same time not putting to much of a boundary so they can be prepared for what the world has to bring.

I think modern kids are coddled. A lot of parents nowadays are very overprotective to the point where their kid can’t even have fun half the time. I think it’s ok to be protective of your kid but you also need to understand that kids like being independent and also like having fun and if your being extremely overprotective and not letting your kid do anything then your just ruining their childhood. I have a somewhat overprotective mom. She never like me being out alone. Whenever I go to the park to play basketball with my friends she is always calling me but I don’t answer, then when I get home she gets mad at me for not answering. I think this is just unfair because I am not going to stop playing basketball just to answer a call from my mom to let her know I’m not being kidnapped. It also makes me feel like she doesn’t think I’m capable. What I mean by that is it makes me feel like she thinks I’m weak or something and that she thinks that if a random old creepy guy comes up to me and tries to kidnap me I’m just gonna stand there and let it happen. I don’t think she understands that it’s an open area where I can use my legs and run away if anything like that happens. On top of that, it has never happened. Whenever a stranger is there with us we usually just end up playing basketball with them. As a kid with an overprotective mom I have personal experience of how overprotective parents should not be so overprotective because it can be annoying and it makes us feel bad sometimes. I can u deists d if I’m like nine years old or something because at an age like that, I would be a weak little kid who is also stupid. So I think it’s ok to be somewhat overprotective about a young kid but once the kid is like thirteen years or older then they are starting to develop and become stronger and they aren’t little idiots anymore so they can use their brains when something bad happens and they can get out of the situation safely.

I do feel that modern kids are coddled. Honestly, I feel like modern kids are more coddled than they were a few years ago. In my opinion, it is good to protect/shelter a child. I feel like it is good to "shelter" a child when it concerns their safety. For example, I agree with people not allowing their kids to go on the subway by themselves but what I do not agree with is when parents don't give their kids independence. I feel like when parents coddle their kids too much or when they don't give them enough independence, it starts to affect the kids negatively. When parents don't give their kids enough independence, it causes the kids to miss out on a lot of opportunities. An example of this is when parents won't allow their kids to go see a movie because of the rating or they won't let their kids go somewhere fun with their friends because the parents won't be there. I can kind of relate to this because I have somewhat of a protective mom. There have been times that I have missed a chance to go see a movie with my friends because I wasn't allowed to see it because of the rating or because there weren't going to be other parents going. This just goes to show that the fact that parents coddle their kids leads to them missing out on fun opportunities and other things.

I believe that modern kids do get coddled. Especially because of the internet now. Most parents see on the news kids getting kidnapped or abducted because of people on the internet. As we age we grow up learning about how we should stay away from strangers, drugs, alcohol etc. and now with our current generation it feel like this is spoken about more. Newer generations of parents are scared of having to deal with these situations so they coddle their kids thinking it could have some sort of effect on their kids. It’s good to coddle your children to a certain limit. Once they are around 15 or 16 maybe even 14 it’s good to let them have their own freedoms. Maybe letting them go to the movies alone or walking home from school alone depending on the distance. There are times where coddling a child can get bad as in preventing them from learning how to communicate with others and socializing. They also gain separation anxiety and have difficulty with leaving the parent.

Kids these days are indeed more coddles than the kids of the previous generations because even though the world is safer now than before parents don't notice that. In the news article that we read and annotated there were many facts and statistics that proved that the world is now a safer place than it was in the previous generations. The thing is now since there are less kidnapping, molesting, and etc. the air time on the news for these events is a lot more than events that commonly happen. There are many ways to properly shelter a kid from the harsh thing in life but there is a difference between sheltering and completely shutting the child out is something mildly bad happens. Children need to learn how to be independent in order to keep going with their lives as they get older. Indepence is a very impotant thing that all people need to some what have. When you shelter a child too heavily they won't know about the dangers that there are in life. While, if you give a child too much independence then they might only want to do things on their own and won't realize that getting help doesn't mean you lost your independence.

I feel like modern kids are more coddled than when my dad was a kid. I have friends that their parents won’t even let them go to the park by themselves. For example, back in the day you could go anywhere you wanted to without your parents. You could go to the park, fair, or even the beach by yourself without any parental supervision. Coddling a child is not good for them because then they would not have any independence. Without independence kids are going to miss out on a lot of fun and exciting opportunities. For example, if a kid asked their parents that they wanted to do tackle football an the parents say no because they think it is too dangerous, the kid misses out on all the fun of hanging out with their friends and will probably never have that chance again. This effects the child in so many different and negative ways. For example, the kid might feel lonely because he is missing out on all the fun he could be having with his friends. Another way that no independence is bad for kid is that when it comes for the kid to go out in the real world, he wouldn’t know what to do because he has never had the responsibility or experienced it.

I do feel that modern kids are coddled. I feel like there's a lot of strict parents out there that barely have any freedom. Back then I feel like kids would be more independent because they were given more freedom to stay alone rather than with supervision. I also feel that this is because back then everything was safer than it is now a days. These days there are many crimes in the world and many kidnappers but I feel like parents should let more lose of their children more to get them to be independent. If a child is all day under supervision by a parent they are never going to be able to handle situations or problems they face in life on their own. I also feel that keeping a child indoors affects their mental health because staying indoors means using more technology which isn't good. Having the ability to go out and play or do exercise is a freedom a lot of parents don't give children in order to protect them. As a teenager I have a lot of friends that their parents don't even let them hang out with friends alone because they are scared. I feel that if the place the child is staying alone at is a safe environment then there shouldn't be a problem. At the end of the day being able to stay alone alone without a parent helps make people independent.

I definitely think that modern kids are more coddled than kids years ago. Kids now are definitely more aware of what is going on around the world. I would say the news is definitely a major impact in this situation. With everything happening it can definitely impact a child in a negative way. I also think that it’s not a bad thing to keep your child safe at home but at the same time your child should be able to experience the world without always having to be stuck home on video games. It’s always depending on the kid, there is no real age where you should be able to do things without your parent always around. Just depending on how mature the kid is and how they react to the real world. Cellphones are certainly a big part of this also. Communication is definitely key to allowing your kids to be free without you always having an eye on them. Going back to the question, I feel like if parents are constantly babying and coddling there children they will never be able to experience new opportunities or even grow as a person. Kids should be able to go out with there friends and be normal children. At some point, as a parent you have to understand when your child is ready or when there not.

In my opinion, modern kids are definitely extremely coddled by their parents. Many parents nowadays try in a way to keep their kids in a bubble to keep them safe from the rest of the world. They probably think that if they keep their kids inside this bubble nothing bad will happen to them and that they can protect them from anything. I think these parents have the right intentions in mind but might not be able to express them in the right way and this can all lead to kids not being able to experience any kind of freedom at all. What I mean by this is for example, parents controlling every little thing their child does like what they eat, what they wear, where they go. I know many parents probably do this, but I believe it’s a little over exaggerated when parents use specific apps to stalk everything their child is doing especially where they go and those sort of things, all of this I think really passes that privacy boundary and can even create unnecessary tension and trust issues between parents and children because the children will probably begin to think that their parents don’t trust them anymore. These issues are definitely more modern concepts. When our parents were kids most kids our age and younger walked, rode bikes, rode busses or just found a way to get to school themselves and their parents let them be and didn’t helicopter over them. There are benefits to this type of parenting though. A way that it is good to protect/shelter a child v. give a child independence is if the child is extremely sensitive, not mature enough or just not ready to have complete independence, then it is better to help and watch over them. Anything to an extreme or large amount of is horrible for anyone, so wether it be coddling children or giving them complete independence, having to much of any of them can begin to negatively affect the child. Overall, I think I prefer having independence than being coddled but of course having some general rules to follow would be best.

I don’t think that all modern kids are coddled but many in countries like the US are. I think it’s true that kids are more protected now than previous generations but a discussion on how coddled kids are now is due to previous views on what coddled is. Despite this however there are still some parents who are far too overprotective of their children which can be harmful to their independence later on when they have to live on their own. There is a balance however since completely neglecting your kids can also be harmful as they won’t have as much discipline and guidance growing up. As far as the main example of letting a 4th grader go on their own in a subway I think that by that age it is a good thing that they can get around on their own and would hope that most kids their age would be able to travel around their community, the only criticism I have for it is that they didn’t have a phone in case they needed help but in the end it’s mostly the parents decision on how much they coddle their child.

I believe that modern kids are coddled. It’s not our parents fault but the world we live in now. When our parents were kids they didn’t have to worry about school shooting and bullying to the extent of today. There is a lot more things in the world that can negatively affect a child. With the internet a child can stumble upon anything and get exposed to things they shouldn’t be at that age. Kids should be able to do things but until a certain age parents should watch. If your kids are doing dangerous things cautiously let them. It helps them learn don’t hover over them and control their life. Let them learn but don’t forget about them. Check in on them and teach them about certain things so certain mistakes aren’t made.

To be honest in my opinion, I believe that modern kids are more coddled now than kids from a few years ago. Parents & children back then weren’t that conscious about what was going on in the world, but now both seem to be much more conscious of what is going on these days. Parents should also have a limit on how they coddle their children. They should give their children some privacy at the right time. I also believe that while it is important to keep your kids secure and safe at home, he or she should also be able to experience the world outside of their house. If your child is mature enough to beware of their surroundings, I feel like they shouldn’t be coddled. Also, if you don’t let your child experience things in the world I feel like this can negatively affect the child's mental health.

I do think that kids are coddled because back when there weren’t cars and anything electronic, kids would go out by themselves. There family’s couldn’t help them because they had jobs to do and didn’t have the time to walk their child to school. For example my mom when she was just 16 had to work two jobs to support her family because they didn’t have money to pay rent. This experience made her grow up as a independent women and grown a lot from it.It is good now a days to protect a child to a certain extent because there are many dangerous things like kidnappings that make it hard for children to be independent. But sometimes it is too much what parents do to protect their children. For example if the parents start excluding them from events and not letting them develop as a human.
