I often think of my forefathers and their time spent fighting for independence, eventually being present at Yorktown for the surrender of Cornwallis and imagine their surprise in knowing the legacy they left. A legacy that their sons AND daughters chose to honor and repeat. 

It’s a day to honor the women before us and the struggles they endured. The changes they fought for to pave a safer path for future female service members. It’s our duty to do the same and advocate for our sisters now and the sisters who will walk this Earth long after we are no longer here. 

This a day to emphasize that we are here.

We will fight.

We will scream until we are heard. 

We will not step aside and behave with feminine reserve.

And we will not be broken like wild horses.

These amazing Female Veterans saved so many lives while we served with U.S. Military Hospital Kuwait. I am an U.S. Army Female Paratrooper. I remember the hot September summer morning, it was graduation day from my Airborne course ,,our Company, Delta had just completed our last jump and we were now awaiting our pinning ceremony to begin. I was pulled to the front and my Daddy was there to present HIS Airborne wings to me as a Legacy Soldier. I have never felt pride like that before or after since then. There were only 2 female soldiers graduating that morning, and I was one of them! I made it! Out all 375 soldiers inyhat graduating class, I never quit! When I thought I couldn’t possibly go one minute go one more step, I remembered I am a U.S. Army Soldier, I the daughter of a highly decorated Vietnam Airborne Ranger, I am the granddaughter of the first Soldier to guard the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier under General Pershing in 1921, I am the extremely proud Mama who had the same opportunity to present my Airborne wings to MY son, and last, I am the spouse of  a U.S.Army Soldier (Ret). I am proud to be counted among the sisters who answered the call when our country has needed us. And to have so many beautiful hearts in Georgia Military Women group on Facebook who have stepped up as well. My journey started when I was a young girl admiring my cousin Lila Stevens who would come home to visit in-between tours as an Army Nurse in Vietnam. Her courage inspired me. Little did I know I would be joining the Navy almost 10 years later. Now I can reflect on my own service. I count among my most cherished friends those who were ordained to wear the uniform. We have a unique bond. Sometimes the world sees us as invisible but not so much anymore. We are stronger and prouder together. It is indeed a day to celebrate!
