There are several negative impacts of going to shopping malls amongst young people. Firstly, on the individual level, frequent visits to shopping centers can foster compulsive buying behavior among the young. In fact, shopping malls always tend to promote up-to-date trends and fashions, which encourages impulse buying. As a consequence, juveniles, WHO ARE EASILY INFLUENCED BY FASHION TRENDS [E02] may inevitably make UNWISE FINANCIAL DECISIONS [E39], and thus suffer from accumulated debts. Secondly, ON THE SOCIETAL LEVEL [E04], the proliferation of large shopping complexes to cater to shopping mall goers’ escalating demand can lead to the decline of smaller local businesses and traditional markets. Indeed, that young consumers increasingly go to shopping centers USUALLY/ FREQUENTLY mean fewer customers coming to local shops, hence depriving traditional shop owners of their livelihoods.

In fact, the amount of money they spend on shopping could exceed their daily spending, probably leading them into debt. Secondly, the massive influx of people going TO shopping malls (B2) can have several negative impacts on the environment (A2). Indeed, in the process of trading and entertainment in shopping centers (B21), plastic waste and other litter are excessively discharged (A21). Because it takes at least 5 to 10 years for plastic waste to completely decompose, it can be a factor for air pollution, water pollution and waste disposal problems in developing countries. (A22).
