1. Humility: A scholar or student should recognize that their knowledge is limited and that the pursuit of understanding is lifelong. Arrogance or pride in one’s knowledge is discouraged.

2. Respect for Teachers and Sources: Adab dictates that one shows reverence to teachers and scholars who impart knowledge, as well as respect the sources of that knowledge, such as sacred texts or historical works.

3. Sincerity (Ikhlas): Knowledge should be sought with the right intentions—primarily for personal improvement, benefiting society, and seeking closeness to God, rather than for fame or worldly gain.

4. Sharing Knowledge Wisely: Once knowledge is attained, there is a responsibility to share it with others in a manner that is beneficial and does not create harm or division.

The Event:

One day, while the Prophet Muhammad was sitting with his companions, a man with very white clothes and very black hair appeared. There were no signs of travel on him, and none of the companions knew him. The man came close to the Prophet, sat down respectfully, and placed his knees next to the Prophet’s, asking a series of questions. It was later revealed that this was the Angel Jibril in human form, sent to teach the companions about their religion.

1. Question about Islam:

Jibril first asked the Prophet Muhammad, “What is Islam?” The Prophet responded by explaining the five pillars of Islam:

• Testifying that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger.

• Performing the five daily prayers.

• Giving zakat (charity).

• Fasting during the month of Ramadan.

• Performing Hajj (pilgrimage) if able.

Muslims believe in the oneness of Allah, who is the creator, sustainer, and ruler of the universe. Allah is unique, without any partners, children, or equivalents.

2. Belief in the Angels:

Muslims believe in the existence of angels, who are spiritual beings created by Allah from light. They carry out various duties, such as delivering revelations to the prophets (as Angel Jibril did) and recording human deeds (ascribed to the angels Kiraman Katibin).

3. Belief in the Revealed Books:

Muslims believe in the divine scriptures revealed by Allah to His prophets. These include:

• The Torah (Tawrat) given to Moses.

• The Psalms (Zabur) given to David.

• The Gospel (Injil) given to Jesus.

• The Quran, which is the final revelation given to Muhammad (peace be upon them all).

Muslims believe that the Quran confirms the previous scriptures but stands as the final, unchanged, and complete word of Allah.

4. Belief in the Prophets:

Muslims believe that Allah sent prophets and messengers to guide humanity, starting with Adam and ending with the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon them). All prophets delivered the message of monotheism and righteousness, and Muhammad is regarded as the final prophet.

5. Belief in the Day of Judgment:

Muslims believe in the Day of Judgment when all people will be resurrected and held accountable for their deeds. On this day, Allah will judge everyone justly, rewarding those who believed and did good deeds with paradise, and punishing those who disbelieved or committed evil.

6. Belief in Divine Decree (Qadar):

Muslims believe in divine predestination, meaning that Allah has knowledge of everything that happens and has decreed everything that will take place. However, this does not negate human free will; humans are responsible for their choices and actions, but all events ultimately unfold according to Allah’s plan.

1. Mindfulness of Allah (Taqwa):

• Ihsan involves having a constant awareness of Allah’s presence in every aspect of life. It means living with the understanding that Allah is always watching, which guides a person to act righteously and avoid sin.

2. Excellence in Worship:

• In Ihsan, worship goes beyond ritual observance; it becomes a deeply spiritual experience. A person strives to perfect their prayers, fasting, and other acts of devotion, doing them with full concentration, humility, and reverence.

3. Patience (Sabr):

• Ihsan requires patience in the face of trials, challenges, and difficulties. A person with Ihsan endures hardship while remaining firm in faith, trusting in Allah’s wisdom and plan.

Example :

Nabi Ibrahim’s entire life was marked by submission to Allah’s will and unwavering trust in His plan. When commanded to sacrifice his beloved son, Nabi Isma’il, Nabi Ibrahim prepared to obey, demonstrating his complete devotion and awareness of Allah’s wisdom. Allah, in His mercy, replaced Nabi Isma’il with a ram, showing that the test was a demonstration of Ihsan in obedience.

• Being kind, gentle, and compassionate to parents, especially as they age, is a critical part of adab. This involves understanding their needs, being patient with their limitations, and always treating them with care. The Quran advises, “Lower to them the wing of humility out of mercy” (Surah Al-Isra, 17:24).

2. Serving Them:

• Helping and serving parents is a form of worship. This includes fulfilling their needs, attending to them when they are sick, and taking care of them as they did when their children were young.

3. Praying for Them:

• It is part of adab to make dua (prayers) for one’s parents, both while they are alive and after they have passed away. The famous supplication is: “My Lord, have mercy upon them as they brought me up when I was small” (Surah Al-Isra, 17:24).

4. Showing Gratitude:

• Expressing gratitude for everything parents have done, from upbringing to sacrifices, is a form of adab. Children should recognize their parents’ contributions and efforts, showing appreciation through words and actions.

1. Niyyah - an Arabic term in Islam. It refers to the sincere intention in heart to perform an act of worship or any righteous deed. It is an essential aspect of many religious practices, including prayer, fasting, pilgrimage, and charity (zakah).

2. Amal - an Arabic term that means action or deed. In Islam, it refers to both physical and spiritual acts performed by a person, whether good or bad.

There are 2 types of Amal

1. Amal Salih - Righteous deed

   • Acts that are pleasing to Allah such as prayer, charity, kindness and honesty.

   • Example: Giving charity (sadaqah) to the poor.

2. Amal Sayyi - Bad deed

   • Actions that are sinful or harmful such as lying, stealing or backbiting.

   • Example: Cheating or deceiving others.

3. Ihsan - an Arabic term meaning excellence, perfection or beauty. In Islam, it refers to worshiping Allah as if you see Him and knowing that even if you do not see Him, Allah see you.

1. At-Ta'ah (Group A)

Salah is one of the example show obedience, salah contains dzikr to Allah and Selawat to Rasulullah SAW, Recitation Al-Quran also represents loyalty and make ourselves close to Allah SWI.

2. Al-Jihad (Group B)

Salah with khusyu' can overcome distractions to maintain focus. It is also shows how we battling ourself from syaitans to achieve the khusyu' as well as struggles with patience.

3. Tawaddu' (Group C)

Khusyu' in solat avoid us from establishing the feeling of al-Kibr (pride) such as we will feel like we are just a weak human. Tawaddu in solat also can instills grattitude in our heart and we will be more thankful to Allah. Lastly, acknowledging human dependency on Allah SWT.

4. Muhasabah (Group D)

Physical acts such as bowing and prostration in Salah demonstrate

humility. Besides, it also encourages the removal of arrogance and instills gratitude. Other than that, Salah fosters a humble attitude in daily interactions. Lastly, Salah with khusyu' illustrates the concept of

contribute to personal and spiritual development, enhancing the believer's relationship with Allah SWT.

Iffah refers to consistency in worship and maintain regularity and and deciplin in prayers. It can self-restraint us from performing sinful behaviors as well as understand the meaning in solah to keep focus.

3. Specialities of Ramadhan

• Sahoor - the meal eaten by muslims before dawn during Ramadan, the ninth month of the Muslim calendar.

one of the five pillars of Islam. Zakat is the Arabic word for "Giving to Charity" or "Giving to the Needy". Zakat is a form of almsgiving, often collected by the Muslim Ummah. It is considered in Islam a religious obligation, 415 and by Quranic ranking, is next after prayer (salat) in importance of zakat are mentioned in the Quran.

2. Virtues of Zakat :

• Zakah purifies wealth from greed and ensures ethical earnings. It cleanses the soul from selfishness and promotes generosity.

• Zakah is an obligation (fard) in Islam, and fulfilling it strengthens faith. Neglecting it is considered a major sin, as emphasized in the Quran and Hadith.

• It ensures financial support for the poor, orphans, widows, and those in debt. Plus, it reduces economic disparity and promotes social justice.

• The Quran states: And those who establish prayer and give Zakah, they will have a great reward with their Lord.(Quran 2:277). On the Day of Judgment, Zakah will serve as a means of salvation.

One of the key lessons I learned was the importance of Tawheed (the Oneness of Allah) and how it shapes our faith, actions, and way of life. Understanding that everything we do should be for the sake of Allah has given me a renewed sense of purpose and motivation to strive for excellence in both my ibadah (worship) and daily responsibilities.

Another profound takeaway was the significance of Akhlaq (good character) and how it plays a crucial role in representing Islam. The Prophet Muhammad ï·º is the best example of kindness, patience, and humility, and I realized that practicing good manners is an essential form of daawah. Simple acts such as speaking kindly, helping others, and maintaining sincerity in our intentions can have a lasting impact on those around us.

Additionally, the discussions on Zakat, Hajj, and the importance of community involvement helped me appreciate the collective spirit of Islam. These pillars remind us that Islam is not just about personal worship but also about serving others and building a just and caring society. The lessons on brotherhood (ukhuwwah) made me reflect on how I can contribute positively to my family, friends, and the wider community.
