The people who inhabit the Philippines are referred to as Filipinos or Filipinas or Pinots. Geographically, the Philippines are apart of South-east Asia however, they were also known as Pacific Islanders. It's Not 7,107! | Explore by Traveloka", 2019) There are 170 different languages all across the Philippines because of other people settling there such as the Spanish, the Malays,Arab and Islamic people over the centuries. (J, 2019) You could say that Filipino's have a lot of different bloodlines running through their veins. For example, I am half Filipino and Hawaiian but in my ethnic background there is also Chinese, Spanish and Arab.

My mother who is from the Philippines has told me that most people in the Philippines are Catholic and in Manila, they practice ' The Feast Of The Black Nazarene' which is where people flagellate themselves and even get crucified.(Escalona, 2019)
Filipinos also believe in not going home right away after a wake or funeral in fear of having a spirit follow them home. Filipinos rarely use first names, they use more respectful terms like kuya (big brother) or lola (grandmother).

My mother, who grew up in the Philippines explained to me that women and men are encouraged not  to enjoy the sun like we do here in North America. They are encouraged to bring umbrellas with them or to wear protective gear against the sun. 
My mother also mentioned that women and men are encouraged to be petite because they will more likely find a mate then someone who is considered overweight. 
When it comes to fashion, it is more conserved and simple. Most of the tattoos are of the tribes that exist in the Philippines but it has been around since the Spanish first came to the Philippines. The tattoos are a sign of history but they are also seen as beautiful and keeping true to your roots. These people are referred to as pintados. They hold a pageant called Miss Manila. It is also encouraged to go for the Miss World pageant if you are chosen to go. Many young girls are encouraged by their parents and relatives to go into beauty pageants. My mother did a few in her teenage years and told me that participating in these pageants are of the knows and if you win, you get the reputation of being one of the most beautiful in the country. It does have some negatives to being in the pageant such as the girls are under immense pressure and their habits of eating and exercise change rapidly. These practices come from the Spanish and the American cultures that date back to centuries ago. There is belief that the god of the sun and many of their gods also were beautiful and had bronze skin. It is presumed that when you have bronze sin you are a part of the ruling class. Having bronze skin relates to the fact that you are seen as more vigorous in a sexual way and is believed to be the perfect color until they were invaded centuries ago. Being Filipino has also come with some racial stereotyping especially for women. Most of the women are expected to do everything such as be the stay at home mom or becoming something important such as a doctor or lawyer. Even as I was growing up, I always felt the pressure from my mom's side of the family to look more skinnier or have longer hair. I have also felt the pressure of having to be more prim and proper and not to stray away from family values. I think it has negatively affected a lot of women in the culture and has damaged self esteem and has cause insecurities in all areas. For the most part, I see Filipino men and women embrace who they are and what they look like. I still see in the culture if you stray from the practices and beliefs, you are looked at the wrong way.
