One of the things that I respect about London -charity& mutual support♡

This picture is from the previous London Marathon in 2025, which I joined as a volunteer for a child charity, NSPCC.

One of the things I found surprising in London is that there are so many charities around the place. During the London marathon, half of the runners are representing their volunteer group.

This is not limited to the charities; many people give some of their food, tobacco, or sometimes cash to homeless people sitting on a road, which I was shocked by when I saw it. This might be because homeless people are rarely seen in my country in Japan, with only 2591 homeless in 2025, compared to England, which has over 345,000 people classified as homeless in 2025, according to each government.

But, I still think in Japan, people tend to see homeless people as 'other,' and I think Japan can learn from England about how to understand the difference and uncertainty in the face of the difference of homelessness and charity.

I saw this sign when having breakfast at Dishoom this weekend and thought it was great. Dishoom is an Indian restaurant chain, and their breakfasts include Indian-English fusion dishes like bacon and egg naan rolls and Bombay style full English breakfasts. This sign particularly caught my attention with its non-standard English phrases such as 'this tap has been making mischief' and 'plumber-walla', and I love how they have taken the opportunity to champion linguistic diversity, creating not just an 'English' or 'Indian' space, but celebrating an Indian-English hybrid space. What is more, all users of the bathrooms understood that this toilet was out of order, which goes to show that diverse Englishes are efficient, comprehensible, and so undermines the argument for the necessity of Standard English at all times.
