1. When I was a student, I perceived grades as a way to improve academicwise and how I should approach work. I felt that if I got bad grades it made me look like a fool

2. My grades motivated me to learn

3. Some grading experiences that stand out in my memory are that I learned that nobody is perfect on the assignment and that trying is all that matters.

4. My middle school teacher's grading method was that they checked people's work in front of the whole class. This made me want to ask for teacher's opinions before submitting my work and it made me nervous. My high school teacher's grading method was that they checked people's work privately so that made me do my work on my own and only ask for help if I am actually confused and not ask for teacher's opinions

Whenever I was doing really well in a class, I wanted to keep doing well. If I had a bad grade, I would just give up or want to give up. Grades were very important to me and I equated and sometimes still equate them to my worth as a person. When I get a grade lower than usual, I feel like I'm disappointing everyone and people will think I am stupid. When every assignment was graded, I worked harder on every assignment.

Grades were very important to me in high school and still in college. I like having A's, and get disappointed when I get anything other than an A when I know a B or C is just as fine.

Grades do motivate me to learn, but I also believe it depends on the teacher of the class. If they are a difficult grader or I do not enjoy the class then I will not be motivated.

One that sticks with me was in high school when I was taking a religion test. I did not understand the short answer/essay question I had to write and asked her to clarify it for me. Or to put it into different words. She would not go into more detail on the question because that was what I was supposed to "figure out while writing." Needless to say, I did not do very good on the test and was very frustrated with the grading.

In high school I was always motivated by teachers to achieve good grades in all my classes even when I was struggling. My English teacher would take time out of class to talk to take to her students to see where they were at in their learning and asked if they needed help or advice on how to do better in the class. My grades definitely motivated me in learning the content of any assignment and how to succeed in the class.

I have always taken my grades very seriously. To me, grades are everything. I got 2 B's all of high school and I still kick myself over it. I have been hard on myself since I started school so my parents never had to worry about my grades. I think I have been motivated to get good grades because it was like a self esteem boost for me looking at the A's on my report card.

My teacher's grading methods influenced my attitude towards their class based on the motivation I had to learn in their class. if they were an easy grader and a fair grader I would tend to favor their class more and have more motivation to learn in their class and be engaged. If they were a really hard and unfair grader and would not share advice and just give a grade then I would have a negative attitude towards their class and not be motivated to learn, do well, or participate in their class.

Grades created a lot of pressure and stress. My parents and grandparents always had high expectations for me and my brother. But I would try and use my grades as a motivator for improvement. I just remember if my paper wasn't written to the teacher's standards or the math problem wasn't solved the exact way the teacher wanted it to be solved even if I got the correct answer, it was wrong.

I was very motivated to earn good grades just because they were "good grades" not to necessarily learn anything. I just wanted to show my teachers and family that I was doing well in school. I worked really hard for the grades I've earned and they did keep me motivated to do well, but I felt like I was competing more than anything. I have a professor now who takes a very long time to grade and their rubrics make absolutely no sense. I got my first bad grade in the course and I just didn't care enough to fight it because I thought I gave my best.

In high school my parents never pushed me to be better in school, they always said, "as long as you do your best." So being in college I now use my grades as motivation to try harder and do better. My English200 professor gives me feed back on my writings immediately after reading instead of waiting.
