Year 3 & 4 Cross Country

Yesterday, Year 3 and Year 4 children took part in their first Cross Country Competition of the year. Mrs Dorman and Miss Hendrie accompanied them and were incredibly impressed with their valiant effort in the heat, as well as their resilience, empathy and supportive teamwork. Miss Hendrie was so proud, she didn't stop smiling all afternoon!

Monday is a Bank Holiday, so we will see everyone on Tuesday next week. Enjoy the sunshine!

This week, Reception explored farm animals.

We looked at the life cycles of mammals and amphibians. On Thursday, we visited the ducklings at Guildford Nursery School across the road. The children were captivated by the ducklings and handled them with such gentleness and care.

Year 1 and Year 2 had great fun creating the national animal of Peru—the vicuña (a wild relative of the llama)—using paper plates.

Year 3 and 4 pupils have been busy developing their skills as young historians, exploring a range of ancient civilisations. This week, they focused on the Kingdom of Benin, using a variety of resources to research and gather interesting facts. The children enjoyed discovering more about this civilisation and sharing their findings with one another.

This week, pupils took part in a practical science lesson outdoors, exploring our surroundings to find and observe minibeasts.

All children worked collaboratively to design their own classification systems, learning how living things can be grouped and recognised based on observable features. This hands‑on activity helped develop their scientific thinking, observation skills, and understanding of how scientists classify organisms.

It was made even more enjoyable as the sun was shining!
