Response to Quote

I feel bad for Eli at this moment. He has gone through so much already in his lifetime. He was affected greatly by the choices and actions of his father and they have left an enormous impact on him. Eli is currently feeling sorry for himself, he feels like an outsider. Eli feels different, everything he does its just, different. At this point in the book he has been reunited with his old family. Even though the Yanakakis' are back together, the time away changed the family. It is like not seeing your best friend for 6 years then moving in with them. Thing will not be the same. That is how Eli feels.
This quote is important because it shows the reader how Eli truly feels. For the first time you understand what Eli is going through and how his life has changed drastically due to his own father. The reader starts to understand the his life will never be the same. His father made a selfish decision that ruined his family. It reveals a second side of the character that has never been seen before. Eli was almost always a person who could persevere through anything. He now feels small and hopeless. Eli feels as if he is stuck, that he can't open up to anyone anymore. He is afraid of being judged for the actions of those close to him. The reader discovers a second half to Eli throughout the quote.

I agree with this review. I believe that it touched on all the major parts of the book. I think that the plots were all over the place. There were three main plots in this book, striving to become a normal family, the belief that others are following you, and the science fiction aspect. The plots were not as seamlessly strung together and intertwined as they were in The Compound. Not every plot held great significance like in the prior. I didn't understand the need for Eli and his belief in people following his family. Nothing that helped further explain the story came from this plot. I personally dint see the need for it. I also agree with the book review in that The Fallout, did not provide great closure on the major questions that emerged in The Compound. I disagree with the reviewers view on the characters. I believe that the characters still evolve throughout The Fallout. You meet new characters some important some not. And the reader learns about crucial characters and their tendencies when they are around others.
