Description: The Pride Center supports trans, gender- diverse people and people of all sexualities throughout the state. They have a food pantry, a community closet and art gallery. They have virtual and in-person programs for people of all ages. 

The Pride Center needs volunteers when they host different events. This event was a celebration called the “25th Anniversary Block Party”. We helped them set up tables and chairs, greeted newcomers, and helped with the vendors. My favorite part was that we got to stay to stay for the performances. Overall, it was a good time. 

Family Lawyer:
Family lawyers are legal professionals that specialize in matters to do with family law. They handle legal issues that are concerned with members of the family. Such legal issues include divorce, child custody, and guardianship among others. Family lawyers can act as mediators when family disagreements develop.

Family law is a legal practice area that focuses on issues involving family relationships such as marriage, adoption, divorce, and child custody, among others. Attorneys practicing family law can represent clients in family court proceedings or in related negotiations. They can also draft important legal documents such as court petitions or property agreements.

To be a family lawyer you need to:
1) Earn a bachelors degree in college/university
2) Pass the LSAT
3) Complete 3-4 years of Law school
4) Get a law license
5) Earn continuing education credits

Analytical thinking:
A big part about being a lawyer is looking at evidence and seeking a conclusion on which is the most beneficial for your client. Family lawyers use their analytical thinking skills to come up with solutions. Family cases can be quite complex and emotional, making it important to use your analytical thinking skills to figure out what's best for everyone involved.


Communication:
A essential part of being a family lawyer is that you will need to use communication skills every day. From writing important documents to speaking in court, your written and verbal communication skills are an important part of clearly conveying your ideas and arguments. Having strong communication skills can help you connect with clients and make a solid case for them.


Empathy:

Whether a couple is dealing with a dramatic divorce or joyful adoption, emotions can be quite strong in family court. While family lawyers need to remain logical and follow legal procedures, it is also important for them to treat their clients with empathy. Having empathy skills means that you can understand how someone is feeling in a certain situation. While you aren't a therapist, you may need to be a comforting presence when working in this career.

Negotiation
When it comes to any court case, there is a lot of negotiation involved. This is especially true when working with divorce or custody cases. Having strong negotiation skills is an important part of ensuring your clients get fair treatment in the courtroom. Many people involved in family court cases are in vulnerable situations, especially children, making it important that you can make a good case for your client's needs.

Organization:

Family lawyers work with a great deal of paperwork and important documents. Having organizational skills can help you keep everything in order. Along with being able to easily access your files, staying organized ensures that you are protecting the privacy of your clients. You are always sure that your confidential information is only going to authorized parties.

Research

While your client may provide you with useful information, you'll need to use your research skills to fully understand the entire situation you are dealing with. Through research, you can find useful evidence and key testimonies. You may even use your research skills to conduct interviews with people involved in your case. Asking the right questions is an important part of finding the information you need to best serve your client.

I would like to be a lawyer in the long run because I am interested in it and seeks my interests as well. This semester I took a Introduction to Criminal Law and it really made me opened my eyes of what lawyers do to day to day basis. While taking this class it also made me realize that I do not want to do criminal law. Criminal law is to scary for me and seems like something that would scare me. Especially for cases like murder and sex crimes. I finished that class in May and I did research about the different types of laws there are. The ones that really seeked my interest was family law and immigration law. One of the reasons is that they make the most money and the cases arent too hardcore and scary as Criminal law. But I have been devoted to being a lawyer for the 4 years and I know that being a law student is a lot. But the benefits that I would gain from it especially as a black women would mean the world to me.

I started working for LEAP at the beginning of February, and I continued working there until the second week of May. I enjoyed working with my Site Coordinator and my co-counselors. I recommend this job opportunity if you are interested in working with youth. I have learned leadership skills and it helped me build my communication skills as well. 

The skills required for this career are analytical, managerial, and communication skills. Pharmacist also must have computer skills, meaning that they must be able to properly use their organization's electronic health recorder(EHR). Being a Pharmacists also requires being well detail-oriented.

Traits:

After researching this career I believe that this career is a good fit for me because it allows me an amount of patient contact I am comfortable with and the occupation revolves around my favorite subject, Chemistry! I believe that I would enjoy being a Pharmacist, the year required isn't an issue to me either. :)

When I first went to this school my mom took me and the people who works in the salon to a business class that her sister in-law was doing to tell us more about the feild we are doing. My mom sister in law made it one of my options to pick this school. she made me feel comfortable in the school.    

Ever since I was young, I have always had a passion for working with children. I have been surrounded by infants and watched them grow into their early childhood states. I can personally say watching an infant improve in their skills is such a beautiful experience for me.

Out of the multiple ways students "can get involved" here at NHA is by doing community service. You have the option to choose to do community service at our state's very own food bank where you can do numerous tasks, from packaging and organizing meat into boxes in the refrigeration room to even something as minimal as sweeping the floors. One tip that I think is very important when going to do community services at the food bank is to bring some extra layers with you because it tends to be very cold in the refrigeration room where produce such as meat is stored. 
 
The best thing I enjoyed about this experience was that you get to work as a team with other students who you may have never even met or decided to talk to at school, and while working you get to know each and every person who works alongside you.

Description~ A black owned hair salon. Ms.Kay the owner of the salon and the only person working in the salon. She’s very popular in the community.

When I met Ms.Kay before internships started we talked for about an hour and she explained to me and broke down the pricing of certain styles and why the prices should be that way depending on your living situation, and the time it takes you to do the style. I also enjoyed watching and learning about how being in and running a salon is not only about doing hair but knowing how to run a business and marketing etc. Ms.Kay also showed me that having a relationship with the clients comes with being a hairdresser. And I enjoyed talking to her clients, learning about their careers. 

I would recommend this activity to someone who is not only interested in doing hair, but willing to run a business and be in the community. And someone who is good on their feet (You Stand A lot).

The program is a nonprofit organization committed to bringing the arts into diverse communities and art deserts to help individuals of all ages, abilities, cultures, religions, and socioeconomic backgrounds pursue their creative and artistic dreams. 

In this program, I learned how to speak professionally on the phone and through email to different types of companies, asking for things to help the organization to get more out there. And we went to a school and helped out the hired instructors for a program she made.

Description: A fast-food restaurant that services chicken sandwiches, nuggets, and strips, along with different sides salads, sides, and milkshakes.

 While working at Chick-fil-A, I gained friends that I still keep in contact with months after no longer working there anymore. They probably made my working experience the most enjoyable, I had bonded with people ranging from my age to their early or mid-twenties. But I think the actual working aspect depends on the person, some of the requirements for this job might not be fulfillable, or might seem to be too much for others it might be a really good fit.

Description: CAES is an experiment station with services available to the public. There are Plant and Insect Information Offices for visitors to bring plants and insects they have found for more information, and if they have contracted diseases.. People are also able to send soil samples for further inspection, and ticks that have bitten someone to test. It is primarily a station with professionals working in plantology and entomology.

I greatly enjoyed this experience as I was able to use a microscope to identify insects and collect data on them. During this internship I worked alongside Dr. Claire Rutledge who focused her research on two invasive insects, the Emerald Ash Borer and Southern Pine beetle. I learned an extensive amount of information regarding invasive species, bloodsucking insects, and the process of RNA extraction of a plant. It was very fulfilling to be able to engage in a lab and understand the process in experiments and research.

Description: A non-profit that strives to provide educational, cultural, and social enrichment for the LGBTQ+ community, its allies, and members, to make a positive contribution to the entire community of Greater New Haven.

I was able to work with this organization during my internship, I learned and witnessed a lot within those three weeks that I had been there. My host was extremely honest with me about the strengths that you should have when working with people that need your help but have tendencies to overstep. I had the opportunity to see some of their difficult working situations but while I was there making people happy was the best part of the experience. Even though I was only there for a short period of time witnessing all of the work that they did for the community that’s extremely underrated and the challenges being overcome also taught me about the workplace 

 

During this internship, I was given the responsibility of overlooking the front desk and organizing unpacked rooms in the new building. While at the front desk, I had the task of answering the phone, transferring calls, and writing down any important messages. If I wasn't at the front , I was provided with the amazing opportunity to sit in on staff meetings with the social workers and tag along on routine DCF runs. This experience helped me grow more comfortable with my communication skills and allowed me to truly grasp the type of work that social workers do.
