During this time, as there were no such thing as planes or cars, people and goods were transported to different areas by either going across the ocean on a boat or if this was not applicable people had to walk to where they needed to be. One of the only religions that was practiced during this time was Judaism and these followers were known as Jews.
Post #2 Explain the significance of the conversion of Saul of Tarsus

Before Paul was converted, he and many other people saw Christianity as a cult and wanted to destroy it.

One day when Saul was in his early thirties, he was payed to oversee the stoning of Stephen, who was a devoted follower of Christianity. As Stephen was taking his last breaths, he prayed to God and said, "Lord Jesus, receive my spirit... Lord, do not hold this sin against them." (Acts 7:59-60, New Revised Standard Version). Saul did not understand what this meant and completely disregarded everything.

Just a few days later after the government had agreed, Paul set of on the road to Damascus, tracking down and killing all Christian's that he could find. On his way to Damascus, Saul hears what is believed to the voice of God, saying, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" (Acts 9:4, New Revised Standard Version). He looks up only to see an extremely bright light, or some may believe it to be the sun. This light blinds him and he became without sight for three days straight. During these three days Saul continues his journey to Damascus, being guided by those who he was with. When arriving in Damascus, Saul stumbles to a hotel where he is going to spend the night. Instead he is greeted by a man named Ananias, a Christian sent by God to forgive Saul and make him the new messenger of God. Ananias returns Saul's eyesight and Saul repents saying sorry for everything he had done in his 'past' life.

After this moment, Saul becomes known as Paul and he made Jesus the centre of everything he did in his lifetime. The conversion of St Paul caused the religion of Christianity to rise like it did.

Post #3 Outline the Extent of Paul's First or Second or Third Journey

Saint Paul's second journey began in Antioch, located in modern day Turkey in approximately 49CE. Paul did not return back to Antioch until 52CE, making his second journey, his longest. This journey began with Paul walking to Tarsus. He then walked through Syria and Cilicia to revisit churches he had discovered on his first journey. After reconnecting with the people of these churches, he made his way through; Derbe, Lystra, Iconium and Phrygia before ending up in Galatia. Paul stayed in Galatia for quite some time as he had gotten sick with an unknown illness. While he was sick, God had spoken to Paul and said, "You know that it was because of a physical infirmity that I first announced the gospel to you; though my condition put you to the test, you did not scorn or despise me, but welcomed me as an angel of God, as Christ Jesus." (Galatians, 4:13-14, New Revised Standard Version). This message showed Paul how much God meant to him because he was able regain health and continue on with his journey. After being in Galatia, Paul then went to; Mysia, Troas, Samothrace, Neapolis, Philippi, Amphipolis, Thessalonica and Berea, before travelling to Athens (the centre of Greek culture) and Corinth, where he stayed for over a year. Then he travelled to Chenchrea, Ephesus and Caesarea. After going to all of these other cities, Paul ended up in Jerusalem which was the goal of the second journey. All together this journey was 2,800 miles.

Post #4 Explain the Purpose of Paul's Letters and Identify the Main Messages in his Preaching

Throughout his lifetime, Paul wrote many letters to multiple communities. Paul wrote his letters to explain to others what Paul and his followers’ believed in. These letters include the life and beliefs of the early Christians. Paul wrote about Jesus’ life and the life of the first generations of Christians. He also wrote about certain practices involved in Christianity and what it takes to connect with God and become a Christian. Paul did not believe that Gentiles needed to follow the Jewish law because nothing should stop people coming together to celebrate Jesus’ life. Paul believed that Christianity life was about accepting people for who they are and their differences.

Post #5 Identify and explain a cultural challenge for Paul that is revealed in one of his epistles

Paul faced multiple challenges in all of his years of preaching. One of the main cultural challenges Paul faced was the Jewish tradition of circumcision. St Paul believed that circumcision was not the only way to truly connect with God and that there were other ways to do so. The Bible states; "For a person is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is true circumcision something external and physical. Rather, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly, and real circumcision is a matter of the heart—it is spiritual and not literal. Such a person receives praise not from others but from God." (Romans 2:28-29, New Revised Standard Version). Paul mentions circumcision is his letter to the Galatians, which was written between approximately 54-55CE. In his letter, Paul talks about what is required of a person wanting to convert from being a Gentile to becoming a Christian. When saying this, Paul tells the Galatians that, "For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything; the only thing that counts is faith working through love." (Galatians 5:6, New Revised Standard Version). Meaning that circumcision is not how you connect with God/Jesus.

One of St Paul's most famous teachings goes as follows, "If then there is any encouragement in Christ, any consolation from love, any sharing in the Spirit, any compassion and sympathy, make my joy complete: be of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility regard others as better than yourselves. Let each of you look not to your own interests, but to the interests of others. Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus," (Philippians 2:1-5, New Revised Standard Version). Today, this message teaches us to find love and joy in the same things that Jesus did. It also tells us unite as one group of people who love the same things, God and the Catholic Church.
