This quarter, after students were introduced to the idea of Absolutism and the English Civil War, they were encouraged to answer the “Enduring Understanding Question” by creating either an individual or group project that can help their peers understand how a particular civil war changes not only the government of the country, but also the social, economic, and religious belief of a nation. Students were able to use varying mediums of presentation including poster board, Google slides, Prezi, etc. to showcase their understanding.

Students in Quarter 1 worked on constructing and understanding year-long classroom, reading, and writing expectations. We also worked on figurative language with a culminating test. Currently, we are working through Ghost, a novel by Jason Reynolds. Please click below and enjoy a series of prompt responses that demonstrate the ability to cite evidence and draw conclusions from the text.

You may notice that some responses are longer than others. This is totally fine as we are learning to write in more than one way. Often, a succinct passage can do better than a longer one to explain what you mean. Sometimes, you need to draw more evidence from the text or take time to compare and contrast.

Enjoy!
