I believe the reason behind this is that it’s so easy for someone to call himself a translator. With the thrive of technological tools like google translate and other translating websites and the fact that english is learnt commonly around the world, even when you just translate for a unpopular comics website on the internet, you can still call yourself a translator. But, you cannot randomly call yourself a doctor or engineer if you don’t have expertised qualifications acquired in a formal way.

I was told that the salary for translators is not adequate and it comes late, after the translators finalize their work. For example, a book translator will have to wait until they finish translating the book for them to get paid, and the money is not worth the effort. Maybe that is a form of ignorance translation has received compared to other occupations, in which translators are not paid properly.

Question 1:
In today's society, it is so important to learn a foreign language, and people want to be able to speak at least two languages to improve their employment prospects. And I believe this has led to people assuming they can pursue a career as an interpreter and save millions of dollars if they are fluent in languages like English, Chinese, French, etc. In fact, the interest that everyone has in the translating field is increasing but not the investment, we still do not have enough facilities to achieve that dream of flourishing the translating field. As a result, students cannot completely practice and thoroughly understand the deeper aspects of translation. The status of translation studies in my opinion is a bit unrealistic.

I know that translation, especially interpretation, requires different types of teaching approaches such as celebrating simulated conferences or seminars for students to practice translating in front of the public, or different types of equipment.

We think that obviously translation has not received the same recognition as other professions like medicine and engineering. You can see clearly that both doctors and interpreters are doing crucial jobs in the function of society. Doctors save lives and gain enormous respect from the patient's family and from society while professional interpreters ensure effective communication between heads of state and contribute a noticeable part in any agreement signed, but they are rarely mentioned.

We think translation studies or similar courses only appear in some universities that offer foreign language courses, such as ULIS or HANU. Therefore, the total number probably is around 10. In terms of the mechanism, we think the course will provide students with a solid foundation in translation theory, give them significant experience, and perhaps give students access to certain resources to focus on a particular sector.

As far as I know, universities like RMIT and FPT also offer bachelor's degrees in language, as well as advanced degrees in translating and interpreting, but only for a select few foreign languages. Therefore, when the universities adopt this program, I think they want to encourage their students to go abroad and work in the technological field more than being a translator or interpreter.
