Pinacoteca is a visual arts museum focusing on Brazilian production from the 19th century to the present day. It belongs to the Minister of Culture of the State of São Paulo. Founded in 1905 by the government of the state of São Paulo, it is the oldest art museum in the city. It was installed in the former building of the Academy of Arts and Crafts, designed by the architect Ramos de Azevedo at the end of the 19th century. In the 1990s, it underwent extensive renovations designed by the architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha. The Pinacoteca hosts around 30 exhibitions and receives around 450,000 visitors a year. The museum's main focus is to provide the public with a better visual arts experience through its collections, construction and historical relevance. Next to the Pinacoteca is the Parque da Luz, also known as Jardim da Luz, created in 1798 as a botanical garden and opened to the public in 1825, becoming the first leisure space for the population of São Paulo. In 1981, the park was listed as a historical heritage site and today it houses around 30 sculptures that are part of the Pina Kotka Collection in São Paulo. Participating artists include Victor Brechere, Amilka de Castro, Maria Martins, Ligia Reinach and more. In 2004, continuing the integration process, the Pinacoteca de São Paulo incorporated the Largo General Osório building, which was originally the warehouse and offices of Estrada de Ferro Sorocabana. Renovated by architect Haron Cohen, the place was renamed Pina Estação and received part of the Pinacoteca's temporary exhibition program. building that is also the headquarters of the São Paulo State Secretariat for Political and Social Order (Deops/SP), 1940 between 1983 and 1983. The agency works to preserve the memory of republican resistance and political repression in Brazil. Its achievements include permanent exhibitions and temporary exhibition programs. Pina Luz, with three floors and exhibition halls, is the only museum in São Paulo with 700 works and more than 2,000 square meters of art history in Brazil from colonial times to the 1970s, but it has been on the market since 1981. The garden covers an area of ​​82,000 square meters, with several Brazilian sculptures on the lawn, two reflecting pools and two lakes.
