Conflict- Waverly and her mother's relationship is falling off because of the way her mother acted.

Conflict- Waverly's mother tends to push things out of her life she loves the most. She comes in between of her marriages and ruins them.

At the dinner table Rich used chopsticks which made him drop his food all over him and called chaos at the table. Not only did that happen, he also shook the parents hands too firmly, criticized her mother's meal and called them by their first names.
Conflict- Rich's first impression with the family is not going too good so far. Waverly is worried about what her mother will think about their marriage.
Quotes- "I was still shuddering, remembering how Rich had firmly shaken both my parents hands with that same easy familiarity he used with nervous new clients. "Linda, Tim," he said, "we'll see you again soon, I'm, sure." Instead she said good things about him and Waverly was confused and asking her mother that she thought she hated him. Her mother asks her why she thinks she is such a bad mother and she thinks of her like this.
Conflict- Even after all the things her and her mother have gone through, her mother says all these nice things and questions her why she thinks poorly of her.
Quotes- "Ai- ya, why do you think these bad things about me?" Her face looked old and full of sorrow. "So you think your mother is this bad."
