Rationale: This is a predictable book. The repetitive use of "this  is" and "these are" will help students understand the book better. It is a good introduction to growing plants. It goes into many aspects of things needed to help a plant grow and the process of seeds turning into plants. The illustrations provide even more information than the text itself and can lead to class discussions. 

Discussion Question 1: Does anyone have a garden at home? What types of things do you do to help the plants in your garden?  
 
Discussion Question 2: Why do you think that it is important that the rain fell on the seeds?

It goes over the things needed to help a bean plant grow and the process of going from a seed to a plant.

Rationale: This informational text is the third book I would read to the class. This book goes through the steps of growing a plant in a way that would be easy for readers to understand. It also shows students that plants need things such as water, sunlight, and soil. If possible, students in the classroom could even follow along with the steps and grow their own bean plants, and then talk about the things they need to do to help the plant grow. This would go along with West, Wright, and Gotwals' (2021) idea that you should connect phenomenon to discussions with students.

Rationale: This book is an engaging way to show students how to grow plants. Students are able to see how the main character starts her own garden, which ties into ideas seen in the nonfiction text How a Seed Grows. After reading a nonfiction text about growing plants, students will be able to connect the story to what they have learned. These connections help build coherence across the different lessons (West et al., 2021).

Readers learn things such as how seeds grow, what plants are used for, and parts of a plant. 

Rationale: This book is a great introduction to plants. This would be the second book I read, as it goes over many different things about plants, and covers ideas that will continue to be discussed throughout the text set such as what plants need to grow. The visuals and diagrams shown in the text will help students visualize what they are reading. It also gives information about plants that is interesting to students and will motivate them to learn. 

Discussion Question 1: What is something that you learned about plants in this text? 
This prompt could be used to incorporate clarification into the discussion, as I could ask students to further explain their answers or provide more information about what they learned (West et al., 2021).
