For the last project, we did a portrait of ourselves. I chose to do the ink resist because I had worked with something like this before (growth theme show) and I wanted to continue to work with it (ink removal). I believe that this project really shows my growth from the first project we did and how I learned to try new ways of creating art rather than just using a pencil and a paper. I took my art further and used oil pastel and ink. This project took me the longest time compared to my other projects, the main struggle was trying to take an idea I originally had and completely change it from the original idea. I tried to make my project darker, which ended up working for me, but this was one of the main struggles I had since I really didn't want it completely bright and happy, I wanted to show two different emotions at once. This was my favorite project we did and I think it is because I truly found what I like to include in my art to make it stand out from the others. From here, I want my art to continue maintaining ink/ink resist and I want to try more ball point pen drawings.

These are my collection of the portraits I drew during the unit. I see growth from when I first started and my first portrait vs. my side view drawing. After we did the practice drawing with the class, my art began to get better and I started using correct measurements from the left side of the brain. I believe my best drawing is the side view, you can see the shading that went into it and the correct length from the eyes to the nose to the lips. But then there is my first portrait which didn't exactly have the same requirements/measurements like my side view did. This growth is significant because it really impacted my final portrait (ink resist). If we had started with that and not gotten all of this practice, my final portrait would not be as accurate and creative as it is now. I was really struggling at the beginning when we did the upside down drawing but from constant practice and hard work, the end result turned out good. From here, I want to continue working on portraits to get even better and maintain this habit of getting them accurate. I really enjoyed this part in art and I hope to do it again and see where it goes from there.

My art shows growth in many ways since it is the Growth Theme Show, but the area it shows most growth in is how I tried new ways to create an art piece. For this project I used glue to preserve the colored ink and an ink remover to take the other ink away. The most significant way I have grown as an artist starts in this piece, I used the glue and ink to differentiate my project from others which was what I did throughout all my other projects (ink resist, etc.) The hardest thing for me in this project was trying to find an idea. Originally, I was going to just draw flowers and the growth of them but I thought that was what I did in most of my other projects, flowers. So instead, I took samples from different magazines and created this, which I am really proud of because it was very different from everyone else's and it really showed growth in my artistic brain. From here, I want to continue growing and trying different things with my art and not stick to the "status quo" and keep differentiating my art from the others, that is extremely important to me.

My art shows growth because, at the beginning, I started playing around with shading and oil pastels, which I normally don't work with, to create my final piece (guitar). The practice drawings had a huge impact on my final piece and if I were to just jump into my final piece, it wouldn't have turned out as great as it did. The most significant way I have grown as an artist is how I completely changed my style of drawing from the practice drawings. Yes, they influenced my final project, but I really went from messy to a more sophisticated look in my artwork which really helped bring my guitar piece all together. A struggle I faced during this project was shading. As you can see, my shading practice drawing isn't the best but I continued to work on my shading in my small guitar drawings. I really needed to learn how to make the guitar come to life with shading. From here, I want my shading abilities to increase since it is such an important piece in art and it strongly influenced my final project where I was able to bring the guitar to life with shading.

My art shows growth in these projects because I used to be very strict in my art/flowers and throughout the year my art started to flow and become more natural and overall look better (like in the gesture drawings above). The most significant way I grew from this project was that I tried to distant myself from the mainstream of art and try and focus on different ways where I can make my art better (by using ink resist, glue and ink removal, oil pastels, etc.) which I think is one of the main ways my art goes from good to great. The hardest thing about these drawings was that they took an extremely long time and I had to still take my time and have patience to finish my art so it still looks okay and that I worked hard on them. These were some of the hardest drawings I had to do all year but they really helped control my artist patience. If I didn't have this skill, my final project, the ink resist portrait, wouldn't have turned out as well as it did. From here, I want to stop drawing flowers and start to change my style of art. I still want to continue and draw nature but maybe more than just flowers because there is more to nature than that.

In this project, we drew shadows and we could take it anywhere we wanted to take it. This is very different from my other pieces of art because I chose to stop drawing plain colored art and started mixing colors together and using ink removal with glue and oil pastels. It's significant because my art has come a long way and has changed a lot since this first project that we did. The struggle for me during this project was trying to figure out where to take it, now, this is one of the easiest things for me. When I get a task, I automatically know what I am going to do with it and how to make it differentiate from other projects. Now I can see that I really did grow a lot this semester. From here, I want my art to completely change, which it did, and try many new things with my art. If I was to do this project again, it would look very different from this, I would have taken the shadows I traced and changed it juristically by using unusual colors with oil pastels and creating an ink background with different designs. Compared to my other artwork I did this year, this one is really boring and dull.
