I enjoyed witnessing the easygoing conversation at the start of class and the level of comfort that was evident in the class environment, despite being only a few weeks into the term.

I appreciated that most of the class members made contributions to the dialogue as the discussion progressed. The students gradually warmed up to the topic, consistently speaking from the “I” perspective, and eventually getting to the point of respectfully voicing disagreement!

For my classroom practice, I would like to create more opportunities for structured discussions where more voices could potentially be included. In Chemistry, this might be a whole class discussion about lab concepts and analysis of data, a discussion about real life applications of the chemistry we are learning, or a discussion of science ethics.

I would also love to create a similar "respectful ease" in my classroom too - maybe in time I will arrive there!
