Marx believed that society is heavily influenced by the economy, and within the economy were two social classes: the bourgeoisie (capitalists) and the proletariat (workers.) The imbalance of power between the groups&nbsp;led to the idea behind the conflict theory. </div>]]></description>

Within the theory are two functions: manifest and latent. A latent function is an intended function while a manifest function is non-intended. The latent function of school is to educate children, teach them right vs wrong and skills that they'll need to have success in life. The manifest function is the social aspect. Making friends and communicating helps them develop and relate to other people, which wasn't the original point of school, but happens anyway.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

Pictures like hearts- which are commonly used to show love- are examples of symbols. Sociologists look at symbols and examine what they represent, what they mean to people, and how they can bring people together. </div>]]></description>
