         <description><![CDATA[<div>The first thorough fundamental studies with "nanoparticles" took place in the USA by Granqvist and Buhrman, and Japan, (within an ERATO Project)&nbsp; they were called "ultrafine particles"&nbsp;<br>Nanoparticles were used by artisans as far back as Rome in the fourth century in the famous Lycurgus cup made of dichroic glass as well as the ninth century in Mesopotamia for creating a glittering effect on the surface of pots.<br>Metallic luster decorations of glazed ceramics appeared in Mesopotamia during the 9th century.
