Hi! I am Michael Feleandro B. Amasol, I am 21 years old, currently studying BS Psychology in Mapua Malayan Colleges Mindanao. I like to cook, watch a variety of tv shows, and sleep of course. I have a pet dog and cat, and I would love seeing them both together someday. Popular Culture is interesting because it is known and accessible to most people specifically in my age. My five Philippine Popular Culture interests are Music, Asian Dramas, Foods, Social Media, and Fashion.

The Philippine Pop Culture that I like to feature is Music specifically SB19. I like music because it lifts me up especially a drowsy, gloomy, and challenging day. SB19 paved the way by showing the Filipino music and culture to the international stage. They paved the way of the P-pop group industry that’s why they were heavily received a lot of criticisms such as “K-pop wannabe” and “Trying hard” but that didn’t stop them because they know what they’re doing and they’re trying their best to show the Filipino talent and what the Philippines has to offer. That’s why as a fan, I never doubted them ever since I get to know them. It is a breath of fresh air because unlike K-pop (not all), focuses more on talent rather than visuals.

SB19 did give Filipinos an opportunity to show their talent in music industry. That’s why after they paved the way I’ve noticed that there are more P-pop groups showing their talents and that creates an event called PPOP CON which is a music fan convention to celebrate P-pop music and culture annually. Its first edition was last 2022 and it will happen again next year, the performers aside from SB19 includes several P-pop groups such as BINI, BGYO, VXON, Alamat, and G22. It creates a change in music industry that to break the barrier because Filipino music before as observed is always about love but when SB19 came, it’s different since their music is not only about nice beat and beautiful choreography but it is about empowerment, passion, and tribute to parents and family. This is something that we Filipinos should be proud of because it promotes our culture and it inspires us to do the same and be proud of who we as Filipinos.

In relation to Agenda Setting Theory, SB19’s songs are either English or Tagalog or both and have a deeper meaning that it’s either will make you feel up or down when you understand it deeply. Their lyrics are meaningful that only more than few can understand the real meaning behind of it. However, there are also times where the lyrics will directly hit you without the need of interpretation because it is straight to the point. That’s why in Twitter it will spark a friendly debate on it and I love that people are agreeing into it. It just shows that the fans or also called as A’tin are disciplined and respectful and I’m proud to be part of them. Therefore, SB19’s music is truly inspirational, sometimes hurtful, and addictive to the point that you may forgot K-pop exist.

I forgot to mention I made friends during the concert since I went alone twice that times and it was so sweet. We got along easily even though we don't got a chance to exchange our socials even after the concert.
