For OCA this is normally done with Wordpress. However, this proved very problematic, time-consuming and difficult for RSI management because:

the importance of linking many animation examples as the central component of the research as well as uploading my own animations. Numerous issues were:

- low file size limits for animations and pdfs and need for too much compression - often making text illegible in images.
- unpredictability of layout, particularly of images and video galleries, on different devices and platforms
- complexity of changing stylistic features for clarity without in-depth coding knowledge
- difficulty of consistent layout of image captions in different types of gallery.

Between starting the research at the end of 2018 and submission for assessment in September 2021 after a COVID extension there were numerous software updates to both the core technology and plug-ins. I do not like to disable updates because they address security issues as well as formatting.

Particularly in the current version in September 2021:
- most the the formatting I had already updated for my final assignment in April 2021 had to be completely redone to be at all legible in September 2021.
- captions were sometimes displayed and sometimes not ion different updates so cannot be relied on
- re-usable block features no longer work, meaning that some of the content has been completely deleted.

Advantages

• possibility of colour-coded, non-linear design to guide the viewer through concept webs.
• Much better linking of larger video files and pdfs
• Wider range of embed possibilities eg for SMUMUG site
• Possibilities for non-linear layout and grouping of elements
• Embedding into Wordpress in scrollable form
• Padlets can be linked and 'paddles' copied

Limitations

• Style possibilities, colours and fonts are very limited
• Cover images for 'paddles' can be unpredictable, even with 'poster settings' and cannot be changed.
