Build in incentives.

Students have voice and choice.

Relationships are crucial.

Metacognition --Talk to students about how they are learning.  

Mindfulness.  What does it feel like, look like to know you have  gained skills.

Motivation and Incentive is crucial.

Other student self assessments that were shared at the three roundtables include:  

  • sight word, handwriting, behavior forms with sections for family comments
  • emojis for self assessment and teacher comment and student comment for their own areas of assessment that the teacher may not have addressed
  • students developing  their own projects with their own criteria. 
  • Intensive needs  behavior plans with a daily checklist.
  • Student led conferences --Discuss what are you doing well and why and what are you struggling with and why. Scaffolding attend in fall and share in spring. This process impacts learning and teaching.
  • Single point rubric is more flexible. Cult of Pedagogy blog word templates.  Tool for reflection.  I don’t have to fit in to one box.
  • Give evidence-- this is a transferable skill and an important part of self assessment.
  • Habits of Work rubrics.
