His contribution to the delivery of GP training includes leading the development of enhance workplace-based assessment (WBPA) workbooks aimed at improving generalist skills, which he has presented at the RCGP annual conference in Liverpool (October 2024) and the Medical Education Leaders conference in York (May 2025).

John’s reflective piece, The Journey from Doing to Being, published in the BMJ Leader blog in October 2024 explores his leadership journey, from his time as a Future Leaders Programme Fellow in 2023-24, including navigating imposter syndrome and embracing compassionate leadership. Now in his final year, John is undertaking a QIP aimed at improving continuity of care at his GP setting serving 15,000 patients. He is looking forward to leading system-wide change in his upcoming FMLM National Medical Director’s Clinical Fellow role from September 2025

She regularly supports peers by answering training-related questions on the registrar WhatsApp group—something many trainees have appreciated. As a trainee representative, Dr Kuek has been proactive in organising regular meetings between trainee reps and the scheme’s TPDs, setting agendas and recording minutes to ensure productive discussions.

Notably, Dr Kuek initiated the idea of communal viewing of online School-wide teaching sessions, arranging for registrars to gather at Sheffield Medical School to attend together. This thoughtful initiative has strengthened the sense of connection among registrars.

In addition, she has played a key role in organising and promoting several trainee-led social events, including walks, evening meals, and informal meet-ups. These efforts have helped foster peer bonding and community spirit within a scheme that can often feel isolating.

Dr Kuek’s leadership, initiative, and support for fellow registrars have made a meaningful and lasting impact.

He consistently goes out of his way to support colleagues, often checking in on other trainees who may be feeling stressed, especially around exam time. His kindness and attentiveness make a real difference to those around him.

Within the practice, Dr Ryan is known for his initiative and drive. Whether it's acting swiftly on potential audit opportunities or diving deep into QoF business rules, he reliably takes the lead before others have had the chance to begin. His entrepreneurial spirit is evident in his creation of a GP question bank website—a major project that reflects both his dedication and technical ability.

Beyond clinical work, Dr Ryan is engaged in education, widening participation, and research. Outside of medicine, he balances life with a young child, board games, and the eternal question: which is more exhausting—clinic or childcare?

A natural team player and leader, Dr Ryan is already making an impressive mark. He is undoubtedly one to watch.

She works to ensure that all doctors—especially those new to the NHS or returning to training—feel seen, valued, and supported. Adaeze recently completed her Master of Surgery (MCh) in Urology with Merit and is pursuing a Postgraduate Certificate in Health and Social Care Leadership.

She is known for her compassionate leadership, thoughtful advocacy, and ability to inspire and empower those around her. Outside of clinical work, Adaeze is actively involved in medical education, organisational leadership, and volunteering and community-based support for women and children.

He prepared for two major exams within a year, a difficult task for any trainee. As a non-native English speaker and neurodiverse individual, he had to adopt creative, tailored learning strategies, often relying on translation tools to understand complex topics like statistics and administrative content. Despite setbacks, he remained persistent and focused.

Alongside academic pressures, Dr Elsalakawy managed the responsibilities of home life, supporting his family emotionally and practically. He also prioritised his health and wellbeing, making time for self-care and sustainable lifestyle changes to maintain balance and resilience.

His journey reflects determination, humility, and hope. Dr Elsalakawy hopes his experience encourages other trainees facing invisible challenges or juggling multiple roles. With compassion, patience, and support, he believes growth is possible even in the hardest of seasons. He is proud of the doctor, parent, and person he is becoming.

Kayleigh has undertaken additional diplomas in Sexual Health and Obstetrics & Gynaecology, aiming to become a GP with an Extended Role in Women’s Health. She has been selected for a prestigious leadership fellowship in Social Accountability, where she will continue vital work in maternal postpartum contraception. Her commitment to improving women’s health locally is already having a tangible impact.

Beyond her clinical achievements, Kayleigh is a compassionate colleague and role model. She champions the voices of trainees on regional forums and has led initiatives to improve access to training and support for her peers. Her generosity, humility, and determination to break down barriers inspire those around her.

Kayleigh exemplifies the values of leadership, equity, and care. She is an exceptional candidate for this award and richly deserves recognition.

Her work has had a wide impact: the film-based teaching session toured HDRs in York and Harrogate and will be shared nationally via an RCGP Conference poster and a DEMEC 2025 submission. Sawsan is also a driving force behind the Art of Medicine seminar series in York, giving her time and insight to foster interdisciplinary reflection and connection.

Beyond education, Sawsan is a clinician for TortureID, a Huddersfield-based charity supporting asylum seekers and survivors of torture. She is a passionate advocate for human rights and works to increase awareness among colleagues.

Sawsan is a thoughtful, reliable, and inspiring role model—an outstanding ambassador for socially accountable general practice.

Throughout her training, Obehiaghe actively sought opportunities to lead, learn, and advocate. She contributed to several impactful audits, including projects on RESPECT form completion, safe alendronate prescribing, and mental health self-referral pathways—each improving patient safety and service delivery.

A dedicated mentor, Obehiaghe supported HYMS medical students and participated in the deanery’s pioneering reverse mentoring programme, guiding senior educators on the challenges faced by IMGs and championing more inclusive practices. Her leadership was especially evident when she coordinated a multidisciplinary case conference to support a vulnerable patient, demonstrating outstanding communication, empathy, and care planning.

Obehiaghe approaches feedback with humility and a growth mindset. Patients and colleagues consistently describe her as kind, thoughtful, and inspiring. She lives the values of general practice and brings warmth, professionalism, and purpose to everything she does.

During her integrated training placement in community sexual health, she trained as a coil and implant fitter, achieved the DFSRH diploma, and has been signed off as competent. She now independently inserts, removes, and changes coils and implants at her practice. Her educators commend her as capable, compassionate, and committed to high-quality patient care.

Imogen has excelled in a range of demanding clinical settings—from undertaking an impressive QI project on tracheostomy care in a spinal injuries unit to confidently managing complex consultations and home visits. Her clinical records reflect her enthusiasm and eagerness to learn.

Imogen’s MSFs and CSRs are consistently glowing. Balancing exams, marriage, and moving house, she remains grounded and inspirational—a true credit to general practice.
