One benefit is that anyone can be a "eco-warrior" since they can communicate with anyone anywhere in the world (Treacy, 2012). And since the apps are used on mobile devices and tablets, they are easily portable, have good camera capabilities, and GPS (Confalonieri, R. et al, 2013).
Another benefit of utilizing apps for conservation research is that citizen science can be incorporated which enables the gathering of more data over a larger geographical space (Vercayie & Herremans, 2015).
