In the case of the word "orange", I would say that the absence of this word was the reason why "yellow-red" was invented. It does not necessarily mean that people's thought or perception of the colour "orange' has changed as even if you'd use "yellow-red", you would still get the colour ORANGE. No translation is allowed with this methode of teaching. Grammar is taught inductively. Students are presented with examples and then have to use it themselves. Advantages are that students are presented with the target language constantly and vocab is very important.
