 Density is how much is said and in how much space it is said. The density of a poem is what differentiates poetry from prose. Incorporation of metaphors, sounds, rhythms, and different grammar styles makes up the density of a poem 

2. CADENCE
A rhythmic change in the inflection of sounds from words being spoken. Sometimes referred to the flow of words.

3. LINE
This functions as a natural pause to signal a break in the flow. In most cases, this is considered to be a tool that controls the rhythm of your piece. 

4. STYLE
The way the poem is written. Free-style, ballad, haiku, etc. Includes length of meters, number of stanzas along with rhyme techniques and rhythm.

 Anaphora is the repetition of a word or phrase at the beginning of lines or verses. 

2. APOSTROPHE
 It means addressing a person who is absent, or an inanimate object. 

3. ENJABMENT
 Enjambment is continuing a thought from one line or stanza onto the next. It often changes the meaning of the lines or creates double meanings or pauses. 

4. INVERSION
 Inversions reverse the typical order of words. In poetry, this can sound more dramatic or old-fashioned or fit the rhyme scheme of the poem. In English, adjectives usually come before nouns. 

5. SYMBOLISM
 Symbolism is when one word or object represents another. Often the symbolic meaning is abstract and open to interpretation.

  • Does it have figurative language and imagery?
  •  Does it create images? (pictures, sounds, smells, tastes, touching sensation)
  • Is it understandable? (literally, interpretively, and emotionally)
  • Does it appeal to me? To who else would it appeal?
  • Does the poem touch people emotionally?
  • Are words combined in a mixture that communicates both a literal and suggested meaning?
  • Not so precise as to limit the imagination or so suggestive as to not communicate? (denotation and connotation). 
  • Does it get to the heart of an idea?
  • Is it creative with language? Use language and words in interesting ways? (metaphors, similes, personifications).
  • Are words used in a highly powerful manner?
  • Is it a language of simplicity?
  • Does it sing to you? [sounds (alliteration, assonance, onomatopoeia), verse, rhythm, patterns, beat (words, phrases), rhyme (end of line, inline, and/or link rhyme)
  • Does it include ideas that people can use?
