The name came from a house that was built in the suburb we know as Toorak today which from the translations of the words we can assume was a chemist or merchant house of some sort.

Another suburb in the city of Boroondara is Kooyong. Kooyong means camp or resting place or haunt of the wild fowl. I was unable to find the actual Aboriginal language it was from but many sources said that the word is of Aboriginal origin
