✅ Section 3: Belonging and Adult Learners (Reflection + Media)

Part of adult learning is belonging. Maslow hierarchical theory of needs indicates that belongingness has to be fulfilled before any learner can attain higher order thinking or self-actualization. The adult learners, particularly those who are reentering school after years or trying to balance work and family, enjoy inclusive learning environments where their identities and contributions are welcomed. Belonging is also supported by the transformative learning theory that focuses on critical reflection and meaningful dialogue as the essential factors of personal development (Abedini et al., 2021).

In the course, the activities such as group introductions, storytelling, and tech support sessions contribute to the development of psychological safety and trust. Respecting different background, learning styles, and objectives helps build respect. Motivation and engagement are boosted when learners know they are seen and heard, and supported (Taff & Clifton, 2022). Belonging design is not only the right thing to do, but it is critical to the success of learners.

References

Abedini, A., Abedin, B., & Zowghi, D. (2021).
