2. De grene han skar væk var visne og dårlige grene og han lød de sunde og stærke grene værre. 
3. Han lider af en morgen snue der ikke havde noget med en forkølelse at gøre. Det var noget nervøs som han fik efter han blev gift.
4. Faren bærer på en masse vrede og irritation. En af de få ting, der har betydning for ham, er en dolk, som han har fået af sin far og som han nu har givet videre til sin søn.Novellen er fortalt fra mandens synsvinkel
