This is the beginning stage but possibly the most important stage. This is us starting out in the world as little infants we are really helpless and depend on our caregivers for lots of help so we are learning to care and love them. When I was asking my parents about how I was they said I would like to sleep a lot and that if I was crying it was usually I was hungry so they would hold me and feed me something. The book states its the critical element in development Page150

Stage 2: Autonomy vs Shame and doubt

In this stage this is where we started to learn things such as what are some foods we like, Toys we like to play with and if we can use the big bathroom. We start to develop Autonomy which is confidence in ourselves and if we don't at the time about 2 to 3 years old we feel a shame that we aren't picking it up when asking my parents they said I was pretty good about learning. On Page 156 It talks about how Erikson’s second stage in psychosocial development, in which children achieve a balance between self-determination and control by others at a young age.

At this age around 3 to 5 is where we start to learn about social settings and to develop social cues and if we fail at something we have self doubt. I remember growing up being angry at not being about to learn how to ride my bike quick like my sister and I remember having a lot of self doubt but when I finally did it without training wheels it was like I won the Super Bowl. The book on page 256 says it is in which children balance the urge to pursue goals with reservations about doing so.

This is about age 6 to 11 years old.
At this age we start to really improve a lot of things we have learned and if feel like we made a mistake we doubt ourselves. I remember at this time of my life I was learning how to fit in with others and I had a problem where I didn't learn how to tie my shoes till I was about 9 and I felt discourage like I wasn't very smart and I couldn't understand why my brain was being like that but I finally got it and I was proud. The book states that which children must learn the productive skills their culture requires or else face feelings of inferiority.
