He attempted to name England as the dominant European power he was strict on social control had a vision of a puritanical society purify the practice and structure of the church.

Charles the 2 ruled from 1660 -1685 "the restoration" period, when the monarchy was brought back after Oliver Cromwell's commonwealth. when he had died in 1685, his brother, James the 2 became a king. The Glorious Revolution in 1688 had happen during James the 2 reign not Charles the 2. James the 2 was a overthrown because people feared he was trying to restore catholic rule in protestant England. Parliament invited William of orange and Mary which is James protestant daughter, to take the stone instead. Charles reign restored the monarchy, and set up the political and religious tensions that exploded under his brother James the 2. He tolerated Catholics somewhat, but his own lack of legitimate protestant heirs meant his Catholic brother James would succeed him which was one of the sparks for the Glorious Revolution.
