This was one of the first creative writing assignments that I had in college. We had to write a short narrative story, which I had not done much before in the past. I remember loving the freedom and creativity that this story originated from! It is still one of my favorite pieces of my writing to this day.

This is a writing sample from Kindergarten. We did these everyday and I remember enjoying them, especially the drawing part! A huge part of my culture growing up was going everywhere with my parents and being incorporated in everyday life routines from a young age. Food was also a big part of our household, obviously! Yogurt (spelled correctly) is still one of my favorite foods.

Journaling has become essential in my everyday routine ever since I started college. Every night I write down what happened that day. It helps me reflect and also be appreciative for my life. It is fun to look back and see what I did on the day in the years prior as well!
I also keep a "Rainy Day Journal" of messages, quotes, notes, special moments, and advice that motivate me when times are hard. Journaling has become my way of remembering and also a way to look back and see what God is doing in my life!

I remember in middle school when Suzanne Collins' "The Hunger Games" series came out and how exciting they were. All my friends and I were reading them together and then going to see the movies as they came out. The stories were so captivating and the characters dominated our school culture conversations. My friends and I even had a book reading party when "Mocking Jay" came out!

I think that this was the point where my writing ability grew significantly in sentence structure and detail support. At this point, writing started to become a way of expressing myself and the culture that I was living in.

This is a piece that makes me laugh while looking back at it. First off, in second grade I wrote in a tiny font with very long stems because I thought that it was fancy. Second, I have always inherently thought smoking cigarettes was the worst thing ever and still do. It was really interesting to see proof that I have always thought this way.

One of my favorite assignments that I remember from elementary school was a magazine that I got to make in 5th grade. I chose to focus on how to be eco-friendly for the project because it was important and interesting to me at the time. This is one of the research articles that I wrote. At this point, I was not only writing to express myself but also to express what I am learning and able to share with others.

One of my best friends, Sierra, has Cystic Fibrosis, and in 8th grade, I wrote a figurative poem about the respiratory disease. I dedicated it to her, as her middle name is Rose and a rose is a symbol of CF. I gifted it to her for her birthday and it was extremely special. Later in high school, I painted her this painting of life and beauty growing out of lungs accompanied by the poem I had written her years before!
