High school- I only wrote for school and I didn’t like writing and I waited until the last minute to write for all my assignments. 

The earliest of my writing memories begins in elementary school. Though not extensive, I find that most of my writing is found in the form of daily journals, some of which I find fun to go back and read every once in a while. Additionally, in this era of my writing, I would also write many short stories for my mere amusement. Though, it is important to note that these were extremely incoherent and messy, as expected. 

Middle school:

In middle school my writing changed from a care free form of excitement and enjoyment to the generic soulless writing that is found in the middle and high school system. The small papers that I was  assigned were supposed to follow a structured format with no personalization. Ultimately in this period writing went from something that I looked forward to as a creative device and way to express my thoughts and feelings to a systematic format of how to express ideas that weren’t my own. 

High School:

My highschool writing only consists of one year however it was unfortunately very similar to my middle school experiences. Topics were limited, and the format under which my papers had to follow were still strict. Additionally grammar became more important to the grading than the actual content and expression of thoughts and ideas. 

Community college:

Community college, with a few exceptions, was a much less restrictive place which allowed me to develop my own unique writing style that better compliments my thought process. Subsequently I would attribute most of my growth as a writer during these years, as I began to focus more on what was being said and how I could effectively convey such thoughts in my writing rather than the minor details of how I wrote.
