The most damning proof of this is the slave trade. In a society where money and trade is valued over morality horror such as slavery will arise. Another example are illegal drugs. Ostensibly, illegal drugs should never be sold because dealing them allows people to profit at the addiction of others. However, it could be suggested that because there will always be a demand for drugs, a controlled market for them would allow people to take drugs in a somewhat safer way.
