A metastatic cancer diagnosis is a devastating experience. The despair, loneliness, and hurt can easily push one into anxiety and depression. The Johns Hopkins oncology team who took care of me, however, transformed this negative experience into an awakening and joyful event because of their deep compassion, professionalism, and world class medical expertise. I am a changed woman who is more alive, more joyful, and wiser because of my cancer and my care team. How can I say enough for this life saving and transforming experience? How can I express the inspiration, encouragement, and love I felt with each medical coordinator, medical assistant, nurses, nurse practitioners, and doctors when you are probably among the best human being out there? I want to be more like you in my interaction with others.
